This may be the start of upset owners now that the early warrantys are coming to an end.Hd may have saved a buck or so on every build but is it worth the bad press? My early build 07 is now out of warranty,my runout on cam side is just shy of the old spec,it isnt puking or has excessive vibs and after 2 yrs it runs pretty good and is now very quiet but I know the oil pump isnt digging the wobble and when it goes it is now on my dime. Over the winter I will fix what HD refuses to.My 07 may end up being one of the survivors and it will be my last new HD.

You think it's any different from anywhere else? It's all about the money...yea, capitalism at its best, same thing that happened to the roman empire in retrospect.

Give the guy credit for stepping up. He stepped on his lip and apologized. Good enough for me.

Blues, get an IDS on your rear sproket. That's one thing that will take a lot of the "snatch" out of your drive line. (No smart a$$ remarks about "snatch" kiddies)
As long as your bike is STOCK 88" and you don't beat it, it should hold up for a while.

After a while, check in with some forum sponsors about doing the crank and timken bearing conversion. A little investment for many years and miles of trouble free riding!

Yes, the MoCo SHOULD do this, but they don't.

You didn't say anything that I and most of my friends haven't said or thought. I believe the motor company is getting away with a lot of **** that no other vehicle manufacturer could.

Good luck with your bike.

Unhappy

Here is the sad part, Harley has to be listening to the dealers, customers, right, or have they too turned a deaf ear to what people have to say to save a buck. I find it sad that the quality of so many American made products has taken a back seat to true quality and craftsmanship, just to compete with foreign made stuff.
I would have gladly paid a few grand more for my 07 Softail Deluexe KNOWING it was a precision made product, rather than a mega mass produced get it out the door product. In a way shame on Harley for not stepping up the quality control, using better materials, to be better than the next motorcycle company. I love my bike, and waited a long time to get one, have had fun getting the goodies for it, just bummed to see how they are really put together.

Dang dude, lighten up....no one's bikes are perfect. And if you think you're gonna get better service out of your big cushy Yamaha, think again. It's a good bike but a Royal Star pain in the butt regarding handling qualities. And then there's the *** bike dealers who are supposed to support that unlimited mileage, 5 year warranty....B.S.!! The dealer service I've received for my '07 Ultra wasn't perfect, but it beat the living sh*t out of the Yamaha shop...sat on problems for months, never twisting the first bolt.

That's why I switched to Harley. BTW my '07 Ultra's pushing 20 K and it's running fine. I just do what the factory says do....maintain it.

Best of luck with your choice, but don't be surprised if that cushy Yamaha is just as much trouble - in the long run.

I beg to differ with some here in regards to HD crank issues. I am not a "grey area" person, so it's either right or wrong- no excuses! Most people have no idea of the problems related to HD or any other manufacturer for that matter. But if a manufacturer asks a whole lot more $$ for their product and it's "Made in the USA", that should still mean something-at least to me it does. I would much rather have "quality over quantity! And customer service is EVERYTHING. A salesman might sell you the first bike, but the service after the sale and the service dept. will sell the 2nd bike! IMHO- HD ought to step up to the plate- because it's the right thing to do. If you lose your credibility you've also lost the customers trust! In turn, you've lost the return business, which is your lifeblood in business. Ride safe!

I lost a crank before (04), so I can easily relate to any anger issues related to that.

As for the guy who is (only) getting a camplate and oil pump (being left with a documented .011 runout),..... time for him to learn how to beat the chit out of that bike! (before warranty runs out).

Back in 78 when AMF took over everyone said the HD's were junk then, hell mine got 40,000 on it and only had to rebuild it once, when they changed over to unleaded gas, valves didn't last very long on the unleaded, still got the bike. My 07 wide glide has 4000 and its running strong. Can't always believe what everyone says, just ride the p*** out of it till it breaks and then worry about it and fix it right!!

Talking

Blues I have an 07 Electra Glide Classic and have 15k on it with no problems. I had an 06 V-Star before that and couldn't stand it. No matter what additions I wanted to put on it I pulled threads out when removing bolts. I'm a seasoned wrench and nothing pisses me off more than to tap out fresh holes. I have wanted HD since 1969, when my uncle showed up with his dresser and by golly I got one and I like it. Every company has flaws and anymore they are more common than not. So just enjoy.
