PC111 yes or no ?

I'am riding a 08 touring bike, the HD dealer put in Andrews 37 cams Kuryakyn crusher exhaust . A K&N air breather and they said they used a 103 map for the upgrade. The bike is running great but should I put a PCer in it, will it really help? The shop said I should'nt need one unless the bike acts up. Some help here please. THANKS.

The bike has a computer (ECM).
The ECM sends timing and fuel info out.

You can directly modify the ECM by programming it with SERT software (the "hardware" you receive is just a security "dongle" to insure that Harley gets paid for each and every ECM that is reprogrammed with the SERT software). That is essentially what your dealer has done by downloading the "103 map" - modified the ECM parameters.

A PCIII is a module that receives the output from the ECM and modifies it to "emulate" ECM parameter changes.
The PC is a nice tool, but it is an in-line (serial) translater between the ECM and the spark/injectors. It can be moved from one bike to another (it has to stay there of course). The SERT marries itself to one ECM and will only work on that one ECM.

Once your ECM has been flashed (with the "103 download") the maps that Power Commander provide are "off" - they generally are based on stock maps. That doesn't mean that the PCIII can't be used, but a little more tuning effort is required because the translation isn't based on the stock ECM map any more. PC may have newer maps available that are based on different ECM flashes.

It's kind-of like trying to talk to a friend in a different country on the phone, having the operator translate for you. You can either learn the foreign language (change the ECM parameters), or rely on a translater (PCIII).

If you've already have a modified ECM, might as well stick with it and use a SERT to tune it further if you're unhappy with performance. Just my humble opinion.

To start off with you need to have a dyno test done. Expensive bike right, don't chance it being lean. Spend the $50 or $60 for the test. Post it here and you'll get lots of feedback to see if it's ok. If it's ok, you're good to go. If not, you'll know and decide how you're going to fix it. PCIII, SERT or what ever. You may find the download was a waist of money, don't feel bad it's all part of the learning curve.

Al D. LEAVE THE BIKE ALONE.

Ask yourself are you happy the way the bike is running. THEN LEAVE THE BIKE ALONE.

Does it seem hot?
Does it ping?
Does it run poorly?

If you answered no to these questions, I would leave it alone.

Everyone knows it just isn't a Harley unless you sink an additional $1000-$2000 into the engine to get it to run correctly.

Thank you everyone for your input. The bike is running good no heat no pings no popping no nothing but a smooth running ride. It does pull pretty hard for no more what I got in it. I'll probably put it on the Dyno to see were I'am at. Thanks again!!
