Advantages/Disadvantages with Closed loop ECM

I have a PCIII installed, obviously with the O2 eliminators installed, the ECM is running in OPEN LOOP 100% of the time.

I also have a SERT (not currently being used... LONG STORY!!!) The SERT allows for CLOSED LOOP operation in the "cruising" range.

Question for any techies out there...

What are the advantages/disadvantages with the ECM running in closed loop operation? Is it just EPA/CARB requirements? Fuel economy?

Any comments/help would be appreciated.

...anyone..........anyone

Both pros and cons to running with the closed loop enabled;

It can help some if it is used when your tune is close. Areas of your mapping for the cruise range are sometimes less than ideal if the time isn't spent by the tuner. Having the sensors enabled can help the mapping a bit where it's off.

or

If the engine mapping is "spot-on", tuned from idle, through cruise, into 100% throttle, enabling the sensors can change the mapping for the worse, ****in-up a good tune.

I'm surprised there aren't more responses to this thread.

Why respond, you pretty much covered it and I am in complete agreement, now, he could take the SERT, nix the 02 sensors from the bike completely, keep the eliminators installed and tune the bike like the 06 down are tuned, you know, the ones without all the heat problems.

Yep, it's just you (that was sarcasm), seriously, everything posted is information from first hand experience. This topic has been debated on this forum before more than one time. You will find opinions that differ from these also, its up to you to decide in the end.
