19,000 on my 05 Deluxe and the crank went. I don't beat my bike or rev the crap out of it. It's all well and good until you have to pay out 3 grand to get your bike back on the road.
Just keep drinking the kool aid.

As it has already been stated every time Harley comes out with a new engine. There will be you Naysayers or Boo HOOers. Come out of the woodwork. If Harley comes out with a lets say a 100CU engine you same people will post this. Man them 96 cu were the last of the good ones. These 100cu with them chineese cranks aint worth a damn. I make my living off them. Now do you know you i am refering to?

So anyone know the average life of the crank?

Nothing to do with time, and little to do with miles.

One hard downshift can kill a crank. Read of one going out while crossing railroad tracks. Banging the gears regularly will shorten the life a lot. Lugging it can't help.
I discovered mine at 20,000 but I was hard on it. Caught it before it was bad enough to kill the oil pump. My sweet spot went down from 80 to 70 mph and I felt some extra vibration. Runout was .009 with the plate on.
I baby my new bike most of the time and when I blast it I make sure not to shift early (torquing the crank).

You known people that make a living doing work on cranks are going to get on these forums. And spill that dripple about how everyone needs their service. They will be more than happy to tell you what a piece of crap you ride, And will be honored to take 3 grand of your money. Just drumming of business.

Dyna..You have no clue what you are talking about. Go educate yourself and try it again, I would start with the progression that the MOCO has had on the "Specs" for a warranty R&R on the crank. Then get back to "US"

dynadad. i dont make a living from crankwork. i make a living correcting HD mistakes. there are 5 places that i know that do crank work. it would behoove HD to send all their cranks to these guys prior to install. but instead, HD uses the ol calculated risk type of mfg. then i would open a detail shop and install chrome trinkets and sell t-shirts.

oh, wait, isnt that what the dealers do these days?

remember, when yours breaks, you will eventually find yourself at an indy shop having it repaired correctly===========be sure to thank him.

Sometime it is best not to have a clue. There a 1000 upon 1000s of people who have put the 103 upgrade with cams and their Harleys are running rite along with no problems. Yeah them cranks are not the best but for someone who does a stage 1 and thats about all they do. Chances are they will not see a problem. I travel to Kansas and colorado every week. I stop and the Harley shops quiet alot. I talk to service tech and riders that stop in. Most people dont seem to be having any problems with them 96cu . But they aint got a clue as to what V-TWIN FORUM is.

I bet many of those 'people' are wondering what that peculiar vibration is,.... LOL

Keep in mind: an employee of a dealership who blabs negative stuff to the customers, generally don't last very long. Sugarcoating the problems is what their boss prefers. (Imagine that).

Another note: How many folks with twisted cranks take it to a Dealership (who won't weld the next one either)? Of Course if they are under warranty they would.

Vibration ? You mean there are Harleys that dont vibrate ? The old shovel heads would vibrate the primary screws out. Aint nothing new. This crank problem aint as bad as some of you are making it out to be. LOL HA HA !!!!!
