'08 cruise control bad?
Have an 08 RG for a week & half now, and am wondering if others have notice this yet.
This is my 3rd twin cam, and the cruise control works worse than the other two did. Set the cruise, and bump the button left to increase speed 1mph at a time. On the old bikes, they'd get up to max speed, 85 mph and stay there all day. New bike if you keep bumping it will disconnect the cruise. If you set it at 84 it will stay there a bit, but will then disconnect. Speed varies a couple mph even on the flat. Any ideas?

I'm sure it will be normal. The cruise on a 08 is controlled by the engine management(throttle by wire), one of the benefits for the manufacturer is less cruise parts. The previous system was external.

On mine I've had several drop outs due to inadvertently twisting the grip while bumping the speed. I've also found you can't "death grip" through a pothole without losing it too.
The throttle is much more sensitive to changes with the cruise than it used to be IMHO.

I dont think its normal, and since theres less moving parts the computer ought to be even better at keeping speed constant than the 07 system.
It should not hold constant speed several miles and then just shut off. I'm gonna document it a bit more and see what the dealer can find.
I agree the throttle by wire is a bit more sensitive, the slight amount of cable slack in the older throttles kinda buffered any hand movement due to bumps, etc.

Think about the lawsuits though... If a bike keeps going because it didn't cut off the cruise and killed someone, the MoCo would be liable. They have to make it super sensative being the first year.
This is the stuff that the sales guy didn't tell while talking all of the new cool stuff on the "new" bikes. I don't remember the sales guy saying anything about the tranny noise or terrible heat when he was trying to sell me my 07 Ultra

My last touring bike, an 05 Ultra, would cut out at 85 mph or a hair over, turns out when I read the owners manual, it's supposed to do that, so this is not something new for 08.

35 to 85 mph, above or below and it will self cancel. my 08 works very smooth compared to 05.

so would it cut out, or just not go faster than 85?
My 03 and 07 would go up to and include 85, and stay there all day, uphill or downhill. Keep bumping the switch to no effect, it would max out at 85. But, it would not suddenly disconnect. Hit the brakes, clutch, throttle and it would disconnect, but otherwise it would hold it there all day.

My bike would actually cancel if it coasted much past 85 mph downhill.

I would have the dealer check it out. I have an 08 RG and the cruise works better than any other cruise control I have had on any other bike.
