07 oil cooler installation
Anybody else think the instructions were a little off for the cable routing?
The oil filter mounting plate for the 7 is differant then my 01. The 01 just had arms that went from bottom of cooler to studs. The 07 has a plate that covers the entire bottom area between cooler and bike. You would think would restrict air. But probably not enough to matter.
But instrcutcon say to to leave p clips for cables on the bike, below the cooler. Well with the solid plate I don't think you could run the cables. So I am putting between the plate and volt reg.
07 reg has connectors on bottom. My cycle electric volt reg has bolted conenctions. While I like the boled connections, this looks like it would keep it from getting dirty.
Also when installing this, you got reg off. Good time to do a good job checking motor mounts.
I hope the volt regs have gotten better. But seeing how they made them easier to change out, makes me nervous.

This is my 2nd time installing one, and I still had to scrath my head figuring out how the gasket goes. You would think the two smaller openings in the gasket would be for the flanges that stick out of the cooler adpater base. But no. They fit over the opening on oil filter mount, on the engine.

With you on this one, I installed one on last friday and trying to figure the gasket and instructions added about a half hour to the install. I put the clips back on and ran the wires back aroun the outside of the regulator.

I agree! And what's with needing a 7/16 hex? Anyway...it's on...finally. Now I'm looking at adding 2 cooling fans to it...just need to figure out how to wire them. I added a thread in the electrical forum...so hopefully I'll get an answer soon.

Can you determine how much the oil cooler is helping on the oil temps?

Did you put the pclips under the cooler? I was thinking maybe between coler and reg.
Wanting to put 2 more coolers on does not inspire me with confidence.

I put the clips on top of the plate...and under the regulator. Checked the wires and nothing looks like it's binding or anything..so I don't expect any issues.

Be nice if they had diagram of fgasket on to adapter and cable routing.
My 01 was screwed up to, there had been changesd in cable routing and connectors.
All in all probably doesn't matter alot. Keep an eye on the cables. Inspect your bike, and you will have less problems.
The cooler is also differant design from 01, the fins are differant. I thought I had the new design, when I bought it in 04.

I agree. The good thing is...I only had to put everything down and walk away once. Usually it's 3 or 4 times! Lol.

Yes, mine didn't require any re-routing at all. In fact, the whole job was a piece of cake, except that is the funky 7/16" Allen socket required to install the filter adapter.

I doubt if it would be significant.

Put one on myself last weekend also, ended up double nutting a bolt and welding the nuts to the bolt for a 7/16 hex, didn't think it would take the torque but it did. And yes, the gasket sucks, as do the cheap ass hose clamps, I used squeeze clamps made for fuel tank crossover line, they look much cleaner.

Putting in a oil cooler is fairly easy. Spent more time scratching my head. Probably would have been better if I didn't use the instructions, except for tq. Theres not much to it.
Going out in garage in few minutes, put my money where my mouth is.

I used a jam nut my first time. Also broke some hoses too. Hope I got some extras. Should have looked before I started.
Also I carry hose, and clamps with me now. either to repair hose or bypass cooler if it were to get a leak. Duct tape the ends and leave them in the bottom a saddle bag.

Did anyone get an average oil temp reading before and after they installed the oil cooler?
