07 Oil Cooler?

Just read a comment from an individual in american iron magazine. The guy said adding a oil cooler on his 07 dropped his oil temp 30-40 degrees. Ran his own test measuring oil temps on earlier model bikes vs his 07. Oil temp was 40to 50 degrees higher on his 07. Never run one but this couldn't hurt.

Not exactly a scientific observation but it seems like more people are talking about oil coolers this year compared to previous years. I'm with you, it can't hurt. But then again I'm in Saudi Arabia.

Just got mt 07 FLHRS back last night after 1,000 mile service, SYN3 and added Oil Cooler.

SYN3 maybe helped somewhat but my digital oil temp gauge would normally read around 230 for a 40 mph ride @ about 75 degrees, pulled in garage and gauge read 204. Will need more time to tell results but seems like it did help.

Coolers

Across the entire country, folks are in complaint of the heat that is being generated from the 96" powerplants. Have even heard of folks installing dual oil coolers. A screaming hot bike in not at all fun to ride, say nothing about the thought that is constantly in the back of ones mind that the increased heat can/will damage something and cause a failure at the least expected moment. Coolers are back in vogue, reminicent of the Shovel/Iron XL days.
I imagine Jagg is delighted.

07 Flstsc

Yes,

I find I need additional cooling for my 07 FLSTSC. But, I am reluctant to hang a standard oild cooler on my Springer Classic, as I think it will disrupt the style of my bike. So, i am looking into the Crashbar Cooler - existing thread on the V-twin Forumit.

I have not settled 100%, but it looks like that is going to be the direction for me anyway.

I have already changed to syn-oil, and that helped. But, I have already been stuck in traffic on a hot day idling - its not a situation I think is good - so adding the extra oil and cooling capacity is something I think is a must for a TC96 owner - me anyway.

I have 2 oil coolers on my 07'. Pre oil cooler oil temp 250/ 260, cool days, easy running. Post oil cooler 185/ 200 hot day average running. Came off the Hi way after running 90 to 100 mph at 4000/ 4500 in 5th gear with temp gauge in fairing pegged at 120 degrees stopped at end of ramp and oil temp was only 225. This was about a 30 mile run at speed.

I run 1 but I don't get that kind of heat reduction...

Has alot to do with whether the bike is tuned properly or not. But even a properly tuned 96 will dissipate alot of heat, so the addition of an oil cooler to drop the temp more is a good thing for bike, rider and passenger.

What do you call basically stock? My 07' bone stock was danged hot with rear cyl temp 360+ with front cyl 280+ at the same time my 05' was 275 295. This tells me the problem is not EPA but Harley's design on the new motor. I put DTT FI, K&N filter and 2-1 exhaust with internals stock. With this front cyl temp 285 rear temp 325. This is after 2 months of messing with timing and AFR. My oil temp was 250 /260 stock. With 2 oil coolers and amsoil I stay about 185 on normal riding. The bike stock was not usable, too hot and ran poorly, now I ride it every where with very little concern about heat and pinging. The first 6 months I put 1600 miles on the bike because of problems with heat and pinging with no help from dealer. After mods I put 7500 miles in the past 2 months and love it. The heat is real on some bikes but most people opt to pay $1500.00 to Harley to fix it. But I refuse to pay Harley to fix a bike that should be right when I take it home.

How are you setting up two coolers? I go the HD one, t-stat in oil filter base. The Jaggs that go on frame do they have t-stat and where?

I had cooler on 01, and will put on future bikes. not sure if it helps but it seems like a good idea in theory.

So whichis better horizontal by volt reg or vertical on frame? The vertical that stick out look like would interferee with lowers.

Would about the ones that mount to down tubes on frame? I though Jagg maid one but not seeing it in catalog.

Curious myself. Though I don't think it has to be specifically for 07, TC is TC, I wouyld think.
The Jaggs look cheaper, but not sure if come with t-stat. I am running HD on my 01, because it was in stock and was heading for Memphis in few days.

With 20% of the HD one comes closet in $ to Jagg. There are some cheaper $90 a pair ones that mount to down tubes. That doesn't include some kind of adapter.

I use the Jagg filter adapter with no thermostat and mounted my coolers under the top of my crash bars with the hose fittings looking at each other. I do not have the lower fairings on, they were creating a vacum around the rear cyl at speed. With the lowers gone I have more air flow and a cooler running motor. Jagg makes a valve that turns off the coolers if you are riding on a cold morning. I will put one in later but right now I do not need it.
The parts are Jagg
4600 adapter w/o T-stat
4700 adapter w T-stat
1200 slimline cooler for Tourning and Softtails
1250 slimline cooler for Dynas and Sportsters
4000 for Bypass valve
