S&S 585 vs. 583 gear drive cams

I have a 2010 Fatboy and am coming off of a 100hp evo. I have pipes, air cleaner, and power commander on this bike and will be looking at putting either trhe 585 or the 583's on the Fatboy. Does anyone know what the major difference is, in the decriptions it just says the 583's make power from 1500-5000 rpm. I like to go fast and understand that these are as big of bolt-on's I can do without touching anything else in the motor.

Dunno about the 583s, but you'll need headwork and 10.5:1 or even a bit more to get the 585s to work. I ran them on a 98 with head work, rollers, larger carb and a 2:1. They ran well.

If I had to choose between the 2 of them, I would ride on the 583s.
Stock 96s go out with a 9.2:1 CR, which is on the bottom side for the 585s requirements.
The 583s start coming in at 1500 all the way to 5000 RPM, the 585s dont come on til 3500 & up to 6000 rpm.
The 583s also have a intake opening of 5*BTDC & closes 18* ABDC which indicates bottom end torque.

Agree with previous responses to the 583 vs 585 question but you can go bigger "without touching anything else". Or were you meaning you are looking for optimum results from a cam only upgrade and just not wanting to do anything else to the motor?

If that is the case, you might look at the Andrews 48 or Woods 222which are designed as "bolt in" cams for the 96"ers. You won't hit 100hp with any of the aforementioned cams though, you will have to make other modifications to hit that number and have a good tune.
