Question Why is the Andrews 21 not a popular choice as a mild bolt in cam for 96"??

I have done a lot of research and reading in my search for the best "mild" bolt in cam for the 09/10 TC96" baggers (excluding woods 6 cams with advance gear).... From what I can see the Andrews 21h seems to be a great option but hardly anyone chooses it? Why? Have I missed something?

The 21 is an excellent upgrade from stock, especially for a 96". If you move to a bigger bore it may not be so good. I think most don't use them because they're the smallest of the bolt-ins.....same thing with the SE 203s.....maybe the thought of putting in the lowest number cam from a mfg is emasculating...lol.

But isn't that the point? a "small" or baby cam is arguably the best cam for a straight bolt in application..... Still I see so many other cams being used 26h, 37, SE204, SE255, Woods 6............. but rarely ever the 21?

I have the 21 with a 95" kit and .030 head gasket and I am totally happy with the results. Bike pulls better then most people think

The 21 should be a great cam for the 96er's.It's exhaust closes at 30,like the stock cam & should not need much of a tune?It may run fine w/o a tune or just a tfi box.The cam should compliment the tall gearing & cool her down a bit.Regards,Tom ps: I had a 05 Eglide with 95 inch kit & Andrews 26 & 3:15 gearing,SWEET!The 21 should be perfect in a 96 w/taller gearing plus, thats Joe Minton's pick too!

Its not the same as stock, and as far as I know small differences in cam specs can make a lot of difference to overall performance.

Before the 2005 stock cam change the 21 was so close to stock it got that "why bother" reputation. Since 2005 it got better than stock by default but still suffers more from it's reputation than it's ability.
You hear a lot about other cams, but mostly from people that do a lot of other work on their engines. For an otherwise stock engine it is a good choice especially for a heavier bike.

My buddy put a 37 in his 2007 Ultra & he wished he would have done a 21 or 26 after he rode my 95 w/26's.The 07s did have the tallest gearing which made things worse for him.BTW the topic is bolt in.If anyone is interested, talk with John at Andrews-Products he can give you a WHY FOR for the WHY BOTHER.Regards,Tom

anybody that thinks the 21 is too close to stock to not bother does not understand cams. Not even close. The reason why many don't like the 21's is because they are not honest with where they ride rpm wise. much better seat of the pants having good torq from 2000-4000 then from 4000-6000. there are a few people who ride above 4000 rpms but most rarely do.

I was just asking? I am not expert on it. Its just that I usually heard the 21 being talked about for 88" not 95s.

never tried a 21, I do run a 204 s.e. in a dresser with nothing but cleaned up heads and .030 head head gaskets with V&H propipe and a Cobra fueler and I am so not disapointed.Plenty of pull with them and top end. I did run 26"s in a stock 03 88" e.g.standard and they pulled very well. With these 07 96" motors, you can through a bad cam in them and they are better than stock. LOL

claydbal will become famous soon enough
its the my d!ck is bigger dyno sheet syndrome. the 21 is great for a bagger, i like the 26 better, but ta\hats just riding style. 37 is not a bolt on, it likes compression and starts plling further up.
