Heat

I have "searched" but could not dig through all the info to find what I am looking for. I think oil temp runs around 230 degrees, but where is the correct spot to "shoot" the temp, the bottom of the motor? oil filter? Checking temps on an 07 Street Glide and 10 Wide Glide both 96" motors. What would be a normal temp of the heads shot at the spark plug area? How much does the temp change between front and rear cylinder? I would use an 80 degree day as a base to work from. Thanks for any help I know this is beating a dead horse, but it's new ground for me.

I started this. Long thread but answers your questions.
Tells head temp also.
Seems the oil pan matched my oil temp gauge.

Thanks to both for your reply. I did read through your post VINDEX1963 and you answered my questions, somehow I skipped over the info I was looking for. I had a one on one with the service manager at our local HD shop and asked him what temps would be normal for the head not the oil, his response was no head temp in the service manual, oil temp was the important temp. I feel head temp relates to oil temp but maybe not. Thanks again
