Question 09 MPH Question

I have a few questions about the new bikes with Throttle By Wire. My 04,stock, with 88 cu. in. motor would go 114 mph all day long if it had to. My 09, 96 cu. in., will only go 100. MAX. It gets up to 80 mph right now. After that, @ about 4200 RPM, you can feel it just stop pulling. The Question is..... does it lay down because of the program in the CPU, or is it mostly because it has such a **** cam in it ?

I've gotten my ultra to 105 maybe a little more, but I can't answer your question.

probably a combination of things... gearing, weight, programming, running leaner, less cam, and so on...

Try 5th gear and let it rev. 6th gear is very tall and will not pull stock fairing bikes much over 100 mph.

Minor tweaks (see sig) and the Roadie pulled 110 indicated pretty easily into a slight headwind today in 6th. The preformance has improved considerably between 2k miles and 4+k miles. The tach was indicating 4200 RPM. I figure the real speed was closer to 105.

I wanted to use 6th because it is my benchmark trial for any changes. When new it wouldn't pull 100 in the same strech of road. As I've made the changes it's gotten better but miles is the only change (and mobil one @ 3k) since 2k miles.

In my state, if you are caught going over 100, it is a 1000.00 dollar fine, a 1 year suspension of your license and they take you vehicle.

So I can't say.

Nail it in 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th and you should crack a dollar easy 5th 6th are touring gears. If you want 100 mph 6th gear roll on's get a hi flo air cleaner, headers, mufflers, big bore kit, cams, tuner with a good dyno tune.

I have an 08 Ultra Classic, which was the first year of the throttle by wire. I don't know the stop speed (I have 25,000 miles on it), but 6th gear does not have much for the power side. I have been told by a mechenic that the throttle by wire does not open 100% and there is an add on that will allow it to perfrom at 100%. I have not looked into this any further since I normally stay around 75 mph. Just love touring at the speed limits.

My 09 FLHT is stock apart from V&H ovals,Doherty a/c and TTS just fitted.Rolls on in 6th from 60mph, now pulls up to 100mph on a 1/4 mile straight.
Cant wait till I get some cams, pistons & headwork in it.
