Stage 2 download and XIED's ??
Is anyone on here tried running their '07+ 96" bike with the HD Stage 2 download and XIED's?
I have an 07 FXDC with Cycle Shack slip-on's, Doherty A/C and XIED's. Runs pretty good.
I want to install Andrews 37H camshafts (for more RPM/rid myself of EPA cam profile) and call it done, with a Stage 2 download.
I DO NOT want a PCIII or V. I do not want to deal with dyno tuners either.
Thanks for any feedback.

Good luck with that!
let us know how that works out for ya!
seriously
your plan is good except for not tuning it when the mods are added.
no way a stage II download and XIED'S will get er done.
too many variables to have a proper tune. your afr will be all over the place. Rich in places and lean in others.

I found this writeup on the web, and thought maybe someone had tried it?
Recession Tuning and Upgrades
Posted Mon, 04/06/2009 - 09:17 by administrator
Looking for an inexpensive way to add a cam to your TC96? There are ways to upgrade your bike without breaking the bank if you are innovating and are willing to break with convention. There are some very nice bolt-in cams for the TC-96 engines available that offer the same or better power potential than the HD 103 upgrade does. Because installing cams does not 'break the seal' on the top end of the engine, overall reliability should be maintained and you do not have to worry about some torque sensitive components on the engine (heads/cylinders).
So how do you built your Recession Tuning special engine?
First you need to pick a cam. Cams like the Andrews TW-26H or Andrews TW-54H should work very well for this upgrade. There are similar cams available from CycleRama, Black Widow, Kuryakn and several other sources. These are strong low/mid range performance cams, something that you want on the 07> later bikes with the 6-speed gear boxes. You also want to get an adjustable pushrod kit. We like the S&S Pushrod kit. We have heard of some riders installing cams like the TW-21/TW-26/TW-54 on stock ECMs without any remapping and only using XIED's. Not something we encourange, but it has been done. These are not riders who are looking for wide open throttle power or big numbers on a dyno sheet.
Normally, you would expect to have to purchase an expensive EFI remapping tool. This could be SE Super Tuner, TTS software or PowerCommander for an upgrade like this. Now comes the "recession tuning" part of our upgrade. Run down to your local HD Dealer and have them install the HD Stage 2 103 Download. This download is for a 103 engine and SE-255 cam. It is also an emissions complient upgrade, so it takes advantage of the OEM closed loop adjustments and the O2 sensors. Yes, this means the normal AFR is 14.6:1, but your tuning download only cost you $149 + $75 installation. The engine will run fine at 14.6:1 while cruising and will have a 12.5-13.0:1 AFR at wide open throttle.
So this is a quick summary of our Recession Special Upgrade. A bolt-in cam, the HD Stage 2 103 download and an XIED (if you want)

Another vote for no..
The Xied's are good at what they are intended to do, but I have never read or heard from any source that they are a suitable substitute for a proper tuner on a modified engine.
I'd wager that they would be - at best - working at the limits of their capabilities in the situation you describe.
Having said that, I'm an Xied user on my 07 Ultra. I've opened up the air cleaner, added V&H slip on's and for now am satisfied, but plan a drop-in cam swap after the first of the year. Probably an Andrews 26, based upon info from knowledgeable members of this site.
For now the Xied's are working, but as you can see I've not done any significant changes to the engine.
When I do the cam swap, I'll dump the Xied's and drop in a proper tuning device.
Hope this helps,
.

Maybe some other help is needed for me:
I had a bone stock 07 FXDC. Punched the baffle plug out of the stock mufflers, (Very nice sound, a bit soft though), A/F, XIED's.
Nice combo, but of course not all I wanted.
Installed Cycle Shack turnout slip-on mufflers. Very loud, but thats what I want. (I have older HD's, Pans, Shovels, etc.., I know not a EFI bike, but I also have done many TC88 carb bikes, all with drag pipes, T-headers, etc).
Anyway, the second I installed the Cycle Shacks, now the bike has a strange medium frequency vibration on engine deaccel. Anytime you let off the throttle, the footpegs etc. buzz pretty hard. Almost like reversion is sending a bad signal back through the engine.
Guess I may need a dyno tune after all?
Computer engines...yikes!!!

I'm a tad confused...but I'm old and sometimes miss easy targets.
You went from wanting to do a cam swap with no tuner all the way to weird vibrations after slip-ons.....in only 3 reply's.
What did I miss?
Are we still talking about build decisions or have we moved on to "why is my bike buzzing?"
If the former, it's already been answered....
If the latter... I'd start with the last thing you messed with.. mufflers.
1- Reversion doesn't 'send a signal' per se. It's screwed up air flow. While this will cause performance problems, it's not an electrical thing.
2- check for loose bolts, clamps, or things rubbing. When you decel hard or use the rear brake, the engine/drivetrain/suspension moves and it might just be moving into something that you put in the way.
3- check your motor mounts.
Random ideas... YMMV
