what to do for more top end? bagger

Hello everyone,

I have an '07 ultra. I currently have SE flattops 103", SE255 cams, stock heads, adjustable pushrods, SE/AC, t-max autotune, V&H true duals with V&H monster ovals. The bike has incredible low end torque. It will pick the front wheel up in 1,2,3. what i keep running into is everyone wants to try me but my bike runs out of steam at about 4500 rpms. So at about 90 mph it falls over and everyone that i got out on comes by me. I like the pipes and slip ons so they will stay even though i know a 2-1 would be better. Would a cam(which one) or head work help me more or do i need both? What to do? What to do? I have a pcIII but hated it so i bought the tmax. do i need to go back to stock ecm with pcIII?

thanks in advance,
Burgess

Head work, to start with. On my dyno chart you can see exactly where my heads stop breathing enough to keep up with the rest of the engine.

I would suggest that your problem is primarily cam shaft related. According to the screamin Eagle catalog the SE 255 cam is:
"The ultimate in torque cams, this cam offers substantial increased in low end torque for engines up to 110 cubic inches with compression ratios up to 10 to 1. The low end torque increases are great for heavy bikes or for the person who routinely shifts below 4500 rpm and wants the power available to pass without downshifting."

You might want to take a look at the SE-257 or SE-258 cam shaft.

I have a used set of 258s I'll part with on the cheap. They have about 20K miles on them & seem to be in good shape.

RG7 is an unknown quantity at this point
Head work, Head Quarters 575 cams and Bassani Roadrage 2-1 pipes.

My friend switched his se 255 cams on his SE build for the HQ 575 and he noticed the difference right away. A good 2-1 pipe is a must if you're shooting for more power.

I recently upgraded my 95" 2006 SG for the exact same reason. I bit the bullet and went with 10.5 KB's and ported heads, Crane 304-2 cams which are similiar to SE 258 cams also put Zipper 54mm TB and lastly went with thunderheader 2-1. Also since there is not a good tuner within 300 miles of me I put the TMax in it and none of my friends can run from me now at top end. The heads, pistons and cams are a must and if you want to save buy a kit that has been matched.

i had a 07 ultra with a d&d 2-1 and tmax with ams 105 cuin kit the cam was woods tw-7h with 4 degree advance . i t kicked ass in the lower rpm . 3rd gear wheelies were great, top end was incredible im 6-5 300 lbs too, beat many bikes while down shifting at 60 mph

u dont need big ports to getur bike fast on top end i didnt. iwas amazed at ams heads very reasonable too, i dont know their combination i do know the exhaust valve is stock and the exhaust ports are ceramic coated and they are ported some what but i do know they work well, ive had many s.e.heads, they dont even compare

runs out of steam @ 4500

I would think that if this is the case
you need to get rid of some timing
@ 4500 and above

Head work, later intake closing cam, better exhaust(preferably 2 into 1),better tuning device(TTS Mastertune)& a good dyno tune!!!Most likely fix the bottom end on that 07 to really make it run!!!

claydbal will become famous soon enough
if it carries the tire in third, certainly shifting to 4th , then 5th will keep them looking at your tail light!

my suggestion, with that kinda power, keep shifting!

seriously, 3rd gear will run to 100 mph or more, so how fast are you guys racing to on a headshaking ultra?
