carb problem 04 FXST

I changed my idle cable. Then hook everything back up. Started the bike and noticed fuel pouring out of the carb. Adjusted the float. Fired it back up, no flooding, but it ran rough, would run good at idle for a few minutes, then the rpm would go up, then back down. Tried to throttle it up, but it would burp out the carb. Then I blew a fuse. Maybe I should re adjust the float? Thanks for all the help. I need to get on the road.
