Question Over Heating & Excessive Gas Usage

All these problems I have started before I added the Vance & Hines to setup.

My 2007 FLHX with 15,911 miles on it seems to go into heat management too early in traffic, with the temp staying at 110 to 120 just after a few miles of travel. I have to give it a lot of throttle on the highway to get it to pick up speed to pass in 5th or go faster and that uses an excessive amount of gas, I’m talking half a tank or more just to go 25 miles and a full tank to go 57 miles round trip. Since this all started I changed all my fluids except the Primary thinking that might solve my problem and I also put on a set of Vance & Hines Big Shot Duals after fluid change but problem not solved. So I need to know what to check to find the problem so I can buy a PowerComm. I know the PowerComm will address some of the issues but the bike should not be running like this in the first place.

Any help would be much appreciated

You need to seeif it threw any codes. It all most seems like you are in heat management mode all the time. It might be your head temp sensor going bad...

Wow, that's a lot of fuel. Do a search on how to check for codes, that would be a good start. When you refer to the temp staying at 110 to 120, are you talking about the air temp gauge? That gauge is worthless.

How do you know when it goes into heat management? Just shakes like hell?

Don't know if this will help, but I've had that happen to me twice. Both times it turned out to be a totally clogged air filter element.

Come to think of it, both times it was riding through western OK and Texas on my way to L.A. There was so much dirt flying around it was almost blinding.

When you put the pipes on did you have the bike bike dyno tuned??? I don't think heat management would kick on at 110 to 120??Do you mean 210-220???Sounds like your bike needs proper tuning, but there could be some other issues!!!

Wow, that's a hell of a lot of fuel 12-13mpg.

The fuels got to be going somewhere. The only way you can burn that much and not be looking like a mosquito fogger (black smoke out of the tail pipe) would be a massive air leak, if even then, not sure it's possible. No fuel dilution in the engine oil? Plugs not fouling ? You need more than a power commander to straighten that one out. There's more to this story
