Help needed! Supertuner doesn't see VCI!

I'm trying to use for the first time my SE Supertuner VCI.
It's been already used by the dealer, so it's already "married" to my bike. This is just the first time I try to use it myself.
I've installed the software from CD and connected the VCI. The system prompted for driver installation, and again I installed it manually from the CD. Driver version is 5.1.0.0
The driver was set up successfully and prompted for computer restart, which I did. Now, when connecting the VCI, the software doesn't see it and in "System-Hardware" I get the yellow exclamation point of driver problems, and the system says it can't install proper drivers.
Screamin' Eagle Pro Super Tuner Software Version: 2.000.0001

Vehicle Communication Interface Software Version: 129

VCI P/N 32109-08A 12/11/08

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-TX1XP with Windows XP Pro SP3.
Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem with a Radio shack USB to Serial adapter. I ended up having to do a system restore to an earlier date and reinstall the driver. Then it worked fine. do you have other software for another adapter loaded on your laptop? That seemed to be the problem for me.

No, just that one. I've already uninstalled the software and reinstalled it. For the little I know, the -08A VCI needs the 2009 version of the Supertuner software, which is the one I have.
I'm pretty much stumped. The dealer is closed for summer holidays, so I'll have to wait till september, unless I manage to figure out what it is, or somebody has an answer. Unless, obviously, I need ANOTHER version of the software, in which case I'll have to wait... But it would be nice to know

Just for the heck of it, you could try a system restore to the day before you originally tried to install the software, then try to install the software from the cd first before you plug in the hardware. Which is what I think you did the first time. Good luck. Hope you get it figured out!

Actually I installed the software, then plugged in the VCI. Already tried the reinstall... I suspect I have the wrong version of software, or something like it. Will keep you informed.
