Carbon build up on exhaust tip

Hey All,

I have a 2008 Fat Bob with a stock engine except for Stage 1, RB 2-1 pipe and fuel pack. I’m getting noticeable carbon build up on the exhaust tip after very short rides; less than 50 miles. Any thoughts of what causes this? Does it just need a tune? The bike only has 3,000 miles.

Bryan

Maybe if I say it's on the outside of the pipe that may help? lol

What do the plugs look like? Have you verified the throttle range setting on Mode 19 and that your FuelPak map is for the Stage 1? My '09 Fat Bob with V&H Big Shots, FuelPak and SE air cleaner leaves a little carbon on the inside of the tips. I just checked the stock pipes that came off at 240 miles and there is carbon. I'd say that if the plugs look good, this is normal. If you tend to run the motor at lower RPMs and accelerate from low RPM, this may lead to increased carbon buildup as well. Better to be a little too rich than too lean.
