Headwork for high lift cam?
I currently have a Wood 408-44 and am interested in a higher lift cam for more performance. What all is needed to cater to something between .600 and .640 mechanically speaking.
Springs are a given, but will I have to do any work to spring pockets, valve guides ect.?
Heads are Hillside stage II.

Your best bet is to call Scott at Hillside and get his input!

Emails won't go through. Not able to reach him by phone because of work schedule.
Looking for a cam with less valvetrain noise.
Considering headwork by cam vendor as to avoid"complications".

Well as you know certain items work better than others do. As well when head work is done for certain items it may or may not work as well with said new item.
Woods cams tend to have more agressive ramps than many others out there. WIth that said they do make power but with the power can come noise. Just sold a set of tw8's to Bruce Woltz . HE HE Bruce is well aware of the noise but they do make power that is a fact. A
A cam that works well in the 10.5 compression range is the S&S 585 very quite low end tend to be a bit soft mid range and up pulls very hards. Another cam to look at is the andrws 55 and 67. The 67 is very much like the SE 257 another mid range stick. I dont recall what you told me your compression is at but most cams that have the high lift alos have later closing points , so maybe use of a advance key or sprocket would be the key for your set up??? More info needed to make a better suggestion. Give me a ring be glad to chat with you some more. There are some cams out there that do very well and not what you would call radical.

TC heads flow best between .300 and .400 lift. .500 lift is a little better but not as sure. If you want to go to high lift cams, you definately need porting, particulairy around the valves. There are many porters out there that will give you flow measurements, even some of them keep the small ports for velocity. You also need to use clay and maybe have to open up the valve reliefs on the pistons. FOR SURE YOU will need to grind out the cam chest and the valve covers. Any builder knows what has to be done.
