Checking Lifers

Buddy of mine has an 09 that has clattering lifers when it gets hot. Dealer won't do anything about it. What's the best approach . They also won't do anything about the pinging , saying theirs no adjustments and that's the way it is. Not a new happy Harley owner. Bike is 09 Road King.

Best approch IMHO is to purchase a TTS Master tune and have the bike dyno tuned, maybe add a set of SE 255's while you're at it. Chances are the lifter noise and the pinging is due to heat from the motor running excessively lean from the factory.

It's all "normal".

The noise you describe, the compensator sounding like a gun going off on start up, the slop in the transmission, It's all "normal". There's no reason you shouldn't buy a $25,000 motorcycle and immediately;

Re-tune the engine because it won't run right,
Replace the compensator,
Install a Baker transmission upgrade,
Install gear drive cams and a better oil pump and support plate (don't forget the Baisley spring).

Once you have spent another $5000.00 or so, you should have a bike you can stand to ride.

Yeah, I'm real pleased with mine as well...
