2008 Street Glide Oil dump from Air Cleaner

Hi...first post...first day on this forum...I appreciate your input and wisdom. I have had really good luck on other forums (car/truck) and am sure someone out there has had this same problem.

3/08 I purchased a 2008 Street Glide and it ran flawless for the first 1100 miles. I took it into the dealership and had the $378 1000 mile service which included switching to synthetic fluids.

The next day after getting it back I received the fuel filter canister recall notice and wish they would have taken care of it when it was there. I figured I would get that taken care of when I took it in for the next service since it is so hard to get an appointment and a PITA to drop off/pick up etc.

About 2 weeks later (9/1) I had filled up the fuel tank, drove about 75 miles with no problems and stopped for about 30 minutes. Got back on my back and it was running very rough and started to spit and backfire. I was able to go about 20 miles with it running this way to try and get it home but never made it. It eventually just stopped running. Of course it was about 8:00pm on a holiday and I was stuck in a bad part of town. Called a buddy who came and picked it up and really helped me out. A couple days later when we were able to get it into the dealership they immediately thought it was related to the recall problem and checked fuel pressure. 45 minutes later it was fixed and washed and I was out the door. This was a good experience but what I didn't like was that I thought the bike got very hot because the exhaust pipes turned purple on the front cylinder and my new Rienhart muffler on the right side turned brown. Dealership told me that since it was aftermarket they wouldn't replace it which really irritated me. I was still worried there might be some other kind of damage due to the high engine temps.

3 weeks later and after putting a couple hundred miles on it I headed up to Street Vibrations in Reno, NV. The ride up was 150 miles and I put another 100 miles on it while there. On the way home after going around 125 miles it started running rough again like it was on one cylinder like it did with the fuel filter canister problem. I heard some wierd knocking noises and got off on the next exit. Once I hit the light at the end of the onramp I noticed oil pressure was almost down to zero. I pulled into a parking lot and shut it down. There was oil all over the right bag, on the seat, and it was running out of the air cleaner in a steady stream. The pipes were smoking from the oil that got on them and I thought I must have blown the motor. Called the same buddy..this time 7:30pm on a Saturday night, of course when there are no dealers open close by. He came by and picked me up and took it into the same dealership a couple days later.

When they finally looked at, they told me I put too much oil in it. I couldn't believe it and told them they changed it last and there had been 1300 miles put on it since then and that I never even checked the oil let alone add any. They said they did a compression check, replaced the spark plug, did a carbon test on the oil (apparantly no gas found), filled it to spec and said it ran fine and they could not find nothing wrong with it. After telling the Service Manager that there had to be something wrong and the oil pressure dropped to almost zero they agreed to dig a little deeper.

After another week they said they checked everything and could still find nothing wrong. They said the put 100 miles on it and check oil saying they were doing an oil consuption test. They wanted to give it back to me and have me bring it back after riding another 1000 miles. They did agree to replace my disolored pipe and muffler so I am currently waiting for them to install that. They said they checked flywheel, oil pump, injectors, etc. and could not find anything wrong.

Anyone have this problem? Any ideas what I should do?

I know it will happen again and I will be stuck somewhere broke down begging for someone to help or dealing with a giant towing bill. I am worried I have a lemon and really want a new motor or another bike. If I don't get that I am surely going to be looking into an extended warranty. My last HD was an 96 EGS that I never had any problems with.

Sorry for the long winded story, but WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Thanks,
Mark
