Cooler Spark Plugs

Have an '07 Dyna TC 96. I am thinking of switching to NGK Spark Plugs to run a plug that is one range cooler - an NGK DCPR8E. Reading the ground strap on mine suggests they are a little hot. I have also heard that Harley tends to run a hotter plug for EPA emissions. I think a cooler plug might lessen the chance of pinging, which I get once and a while only under a severe lug. The bike has SE stage one, race tuner and dyna tune.

Are there any issues with running a cooler plug and has anyone had any experience with this ?

I have been running the DCPR9E plugs in mine for over a year with no problems. The only thing I found is with the compression increase I still need something different. I am currently looking into a non protruded tip design to cool off the plugs alittle more. Check out my sig. for build details.

Ummm... Why not just stop (severely) lugging the motor? If you lug the motor enough to start caring about the pinging caused by it, then you will soon have other issues to worry about like damage to your motor, tranny, clutch, gaskets etc.

For your build the regular HD plugs should do just fine.

I can't see how changing plugs alone would solve a pinging problem.

I run two heat range cooler plugs. It helped a lot with pinging. This crappy Ca. gas is the worst. Been running them over a year now and will stick with them.
