Cam = Savings ?

I have a 07 streetglide with RB LSR exhaust TMax/AT ECM and SE Heavey Breather. The cam cover has to be changed it has chrome issues,So the moco has to pick up the labor on this .Would it be worth it to do a bolt in cam, So how much labor will I be saving. I already asked the service manager at my dealership and he said no problem just bring the parts,or order from them.thanks for the help guys.2Wheel

Savings

If you are looking for more power, and you are already part of the way there, you may as well. Several good grinds to choose from, but our preference would be a Bob Wood TW-6-6.

WOW! Never heard of a dealership telling someone to "bring in" their own parts? I'd go with the Wood 6-6 in a second!

I agree with X and Scott....From the 3 dynos i have seen with a/c, pipes, and the Woods TW6-6 all have been nice. They all showed mid 80's hp and hovering around 100tq....This with nice curves as well...This cam will also grow with the motor as well...it will be worth it.

Thanks for the Advice BUT

Thanks for the response,Yes I agree on the Woods cam,I run the Woods W-6g Cam in my S&S 88'' EVO 03 Indian scout, runs extremly strong 104 hp / 100 TQ , So with that said Woods would be my choice in my 07 Steet Glide,But what I am asking here is how much more labor is going to be involved in the cam change, I am not trying to cheep out here, and not to get to long winded here I also have a 08 VRSCDX Night Rod Special,I just purchased and need to do performance mods on that bike,But thats a whole diffrent story for another thread on the V-Rod .So I was not going to do anymore mods to the street glide being my sickness for speed is the reason I got the VRod, but since the warrenty issue came about and they have to change the cam cover,I wanted to know what if any labor charge would apply, If there would be a minumal labor invovled like a hour or two ,I would spend the bucks for the W-6 . and wait a while for the mods on the VRod.thanks again for the advice .......2Wheel

Yes, there will be an additional charge. If you choose to go with adjustable pushrods, than i can't imagine more than one or 2 more hours labor at the most. If you stay with stock pushrods, tack another hour plus to that ...At least. The 07 cam change is a lot easier than the previous years. Just call for a quote as some dealers can be way off base. Have them check runout while there as well.

Sounds pretty good. Alot of the labor is the r&r of the exhaust which they have to do to get to the cam cover.
Get a quote tho.

Thanks again for the info,But why would there be a labor charge on the install of the oem or after market adj pushrods , or the exhaust .from my understanding to change out the cam cover witch needs to be done under warrenty issues of chrome peeling ,the pushrods need to be removed to change the bad cam cover to a new one, I might be wrong but when I talked with the mechanic at my dealership he told me it was a 3 to 4 hr job because the pushrods needed to be removed to replace the cam cover, then the service manager ask me if I thought about doing a cam upgrade . I am savy at all on TC engines,I gave up wrenching in the evo days .shovels, iron heads, evo.but never opened up a TC so thats why I am asking .Again thanks for all the help.......2Wheel

No, the cam cover is just a decorative piece. It's really just a cover that holds oil in and nothing else. Its not like an EVO where they were a vital part of the motor.

Scott, will a TW9B-06 (my previous cam) work with his seup? I also have the 4* advance gear.

Joe,
As long as they were willing to do some major engine modifications, then hang on.

I have never opened up the cam compartment on an 07 but on my 02, the pushrods did not need to be removed to replace the cam cover. They only need to be removed if you're removing the cam plate which holds the cams and is underneath the cam cover.

My 04 needed to have the webs in the valve cover ground to stop a clatter from a rocker or 2, and I used an andrews 37 (.510 lift). Have they changed since then?

Cams

I just tuned an FLHXI today with 211's and rinehart true duals and it made 98 HP & 102 Tq. As far as your cam cover, that's all that it is is a cover. There will be additional time to pull the cam door. I would guess about 2.5 hours if you use adjustable pushrods. I have run alot of different Woods cams, they work well, just have alot of valve train noise. Good Luck, Scooter....
