Primary chain noise?
Hey ,what's up fellow riders? : I have a 07 street glide 96 inch with 4200 miles on it now.
I was wondering if anyone has the same symptoms as me?
When I am idling at a stop and go to take off without giving too much gas I here what sounds like the primary chain tightening up.
I know the 07's have a automatic tensioner on them, but wondering if the little slap like sound is normal or not? It seems like it does it more when I let the clutch out faster than slow. Any one with a reply is appreciated?

I have the same symptom on the same scoot, I first noticed it around 400 miles, still doing it at 3000 miles. I asked the dealer about it when I took it in for the 1000 mile service, and was told that it just needed a clutch adjustment.
However, apparently that wasn't the "fix". I'm afraid its yet another "normal" situation on the new models.

I think alot of people believe this new tensioner isnt keeping the primary chain tight enough and thus are hearing clatter,it sounds as if this tensioner is keeping chain too tight.

Primary chain
Yeah I know.. What is not normal these days? Any noise you here and tell the dealer they tell you it is normal. I don't know if there waiting for the warranty to expire or what? O'h well , I guess I'll wait for the warranty to expire then go gear drive. To bad harley doesn't have gear drive cams yet.

My '07 ultra does the same thing. Dealer was no help, said
the primary tensioner had a loose bolt. Tightened it up
and still makes noise. I got 7 years to grenade it though.
Not much help for you, but you are not alone.

Was just about to post a new thread in regard to my '07 Deuce which I got about a month ago; it does the same thing. Don't like it but I guess I'll have to live with it.

tested it
Yes, I removed the chain tension spring which gave the tensioner too much slack, heard all sorts of clatter, but the whinning was the same. Not the normal 1 and 5 gear whine. Had to buy a new tensioner.
Some belive it could be the trans to cranckase alighnmet, due to the fact that there are no dowels between the two on the 07s.
Why is it some of the newer 07s dont have that problem.
I still belive its someting that can be fixed.

Saw your post and was curious had not noticed that noise, but found that if I released clutch real quick could create that slapping sound but when I release clutch slowly dont hear it .

07 issues
I have had the same problem on my 07 fxstb, its the clutch all the way. I had the same issue on another harley. Install a Pro-clutch. The price is high but the rewards are worth it. Front end comes up acouple inches jamin it in 2nd. Well worth the money.
