After Build Question ...

Two quick questions ...

1) Had a 95" build done last year and the Indy told me to bring her in after 500 miles. I moved before that number was reached and need advice on what he might need to have performed at that point. Already did the oil change and new plugs, just want to know what I'm missing. I'm great with a wrench and solid advice, so it'll be great to hear what you think.

2) Also, When you re-torque anything that has loctite should you remove the bolt, clean it, then re-apply the appropriate strength loctite? Or do you just torque the fastener to spec without removing it?

Thanks !!

Sounds like you might have a good Indy who just wants to make sure your bike is good to go after the break in period. You might have saved yourself a few bucks change the fluids yourself bit I think it's worth at least calling him to see what he wants to check. As for the locktite, I always clean my bolts and then reapply new before torqueing back. That's just good practice and leaves you with no doubts if you did it right or not.

As long as the bike is running good, really nothing that needs to be done except oil/filter change. No need to even change the plugs.

I'm guessing, but he may have wanted to run a compression test.

WE check comp level, leak down, as well go back over anything that we have taken off to ensure all is tight, as well we will check for intake leaks, and any other thing that could be leaking from the build. One thing that we see on a regular basis on the bikes with foot boards is a loose right front mount. But then agian in these tight twisty roads they will drag the board and force it loose. We use red loctite and, as well the cleaner, and primer and have found that to be the solution to keeping them tight. We like to see them back in a few hundred miles for a wuick once over if they are local, if not I go over what to watch for. On build we will put 30 miles on the build and then come back and go over the normal stuff like ex studs, ex brackets that tend to move around more than other items. Follow the service manual for the spes on those items give them a tq check and I am sure you will be ok.
