Hoosierhog, thanks for the run down, but I got a dumb question, how do you keep turning the spring to get it all the way past the tensioner spring? Did you fire it up and did it cut down on the ticking. I got mine from a member here (thanks Mike) and I was surprised to see how stiff of a spring it was.

I kept turning it with my fingers until I couldn't anymore, then took a pair of needle nose pliers to turn it past the tensioner spring. Then, I took a little screwdriver and pushed the spring past where the drive pin will enter. Then, tapped the drive pin in, pulled out the screwdriver and the Baisley spring then came back and rested against the pin.
Yes, I fired it up and it sounded great. However, the motor really didn't get too noisey until I had ridden it for about 10 to 15 minutes. Then the clatter would start. Changing the oil back to regular 20w50 from synthetic seemed to help it out some, but still had some noise.
I hope this helps!
I have great hopes for this spring, both the Baisley and the season. The weather outside is frightful, but my Harley is delightful!

MtClassic....hey,i see you got the spring.I hope you have better luck than i did.Sometimes i dont have the patience for stuff like that. One day i may get another one and just pay somebody to put it in.
Is non-synthetic iol supposed to help with some of the ticking too? When i bought mine the dealer had just serviced it but i have no idea what they put in it.
Thanks,mike

Hoosier, thanks that makes sense.
Mike, I have run both dyno and synthetic oil and always makes same ticking noise. I did notice that when the weather got cold and I changed to shell Rotella 5-40 synthetic it helped, but I would not run that oil in the hotter weather. Fortunately I have had my exhaust off and changed it to a 2:1 and I think i can get the cam cover off without removing the exhaust and thanks again for the quick service. jeff

I have never had a HD with a warranty. But would be little reluctant to do on new bike. You will get over it.
I got spring, will be installing this week. Still I wonder what makes us smarter then HD. Why didn't they do it?

I have been accused of that too. But like I said, rode it over much of this country.
I can't remember this whole thread, and if any one adressed warranty, but I got to beleive it would effect it. Depends what you value more. Money is a matter of perspective.

its been debated over and over again. But I do wonder why HD with all its R&D doesn't do it. Maybe don't want to admit its there??

When I first got the bike, that tic made me wonder. You normally do not equate tics with something normal or good.

The Spring
Folks,
can someone post the link to the photo tutorial that is somewhere on this site for a Baisley spring install.
I viewed it the other night and now i can't find it.
Great photos that layout the install of the spring.
Maybe the site guy (dprice?) would be interested in a Mod page.
where all the mods can be posted for easy reference.
just a thought.
Thanks for all the help.
