I was 1st going with the B spring on my build before I seen the stock oil pump. I decided to go fueling & on fourm members advice put the spring in to. I got so much cold oil PSI it pegged my 60 psi gauge. I never had a oil PSI problem before and now when its hot I still dont have a oil psi problem. When is too much oil psi a bad thing?

...When your bike starts pissing oil outta all the gaskets, probably...or when your oil pump goes **** up because of too much cold oil pressure.....
Good luck.

I have been reading the posts on this spring. Went out and bought one and took it to my mechanic. He told me that it wont work on my bike because i have a gear driven oil pump???I dont think he ever read the instructions because i dont think it has anything to do with the oil pump. Am i way off on this or is he correct in saying it wont work on myh bike.

You need a mechanic.

Have to admit I wondered this. Is it a matter or the company doing the best thing after lots of research or the company not fixing a problem?

He must REALLY understand the inner workings of a bike huh? Yeah the pump may be gear driven, but its the pressure relief port that is the affected part here...It just forces more oil into the engine workings before the excess can be bypassed.

how cold do you think that has to be?...I was running my bike (with baisley spring) this spring with temps in the 30's and the cold oil pressure wasn't any higher than it has been at startup lately with temps in the 60's...no oil weeping, no leaking or blown gaskets, and my bike has been through the complete range of temps from the low 30's to over 100 degrees this year....sure does quiet the tapping noises I used to get though.

I used the fueling pump in the strokers I build but I must say it still has 0 to 2 lbs at hot idle....when I install the Basiley spring with the fueling pump the hot idlewent up to 15 to 18 lbs. I think its a good combo but, the spring is my first choice.

Thanks for your posting, Doc. I too was wondering whether a Basiley spring could/should be used together with my Feuling pump. Having 15 to 18 lbs while at hot idle sounds like a great deal. I suspect my oil pressure guage will peg while cold, 60 lbs max., but I could live with that until the engine warms up.

Yea, after my Bailsey install my pressure pegs out when cold too...would probably go around twice if the guage didnt stop it!

What kind of oil are you using? I am wondering if it would peg out with a synthetic in the cooler weather. I am thinking about trying the Amsoil straight 60 weight in my 01 road king to see if I can achieve an even quieter running motor than it is right now and then if that doesn't do the trick I will increase the oil pressure with the stronger relief spring.

Well, I have about 2k on my Baisley spring now. The first 1k was mostly around town, then I hit the interstate on the last 2k It started puking oil out the air cleaner. Strange it never did that in the other 53k I rode the bike. I'm beginning to wonder if that spring might be the cat's meow for somebody on the drag strip, but the wrong thing for the guy on the street. I'm sure somebody will tell me I'm wrong....

HD recommends 60wt oil above 80 degrees F. and 50wt. above 60 degrees F. anyway. I don't know what oil others are using but with 15w-50 or 20w-50 the hot oil pressure with the Baisley spring in my bike is 8 psi idle and 35 psi at 2,000 rpm. It's a little higher when cold. The spring is a good deal but I think it would lead to excessive oil pressure with 60 wt.
Just my opinion, though.

NUC
