It has to make a difference unless you have damage in the port where the plunger slides. I seen this more than once and the cam plate had to be replaced. The spring will not quiet down worn out lifters either.

It's got new lifters. I also put in a new plunger. It works smoothly.

No help on mine. Also polished the plunger,
works thru its full travel with no binding.
My 95" with 37G and Underground Heads
(9.8:1) makes pretty much the
same noise as it did as a stock 88.
BTW 94 HP and 103 torque.

Ya, it is nice hearing from people that the spring hasn't helped...I'm afraid I'd be one of them too cause I took my bike in to a Harley mechanic (non-dealer) for the same kind of clicking noise. I was told by the mechanic that the noise wasn't right so he looked at the lifters and said they were badly worn. Well, to the tune of $500.00+ dollars, he replaced the lifters and added adjustable pushrods...no difference in the clicking! He showed me the lifters when I came to pick up the bike...they didn't seem worn to me and I've built v-8's enough to know what wear looks like. Sooooo, I live and learn...

$500.00.....you must have bought the hydro sloids....they are the loudest lifter made. The spring is only $12.50, try it, what do you have to loose?
If you have the hydro solids I'd get rid of them and put my stock lifters back in or a set of the S/E lifters for high performance engines.

Probably no way to know what lifters he installed in my bike! Didn't make any more noise...just the same is all! You're probably right though...for 12.00, it's not a great expense to try!?

No Change in noise
I installed the spring a few weeks ago and this is what I got for the effort.
1.) Hot Running oil pressure ~ 5# higher
2.) Hot Idle oil pressure ~ 2# higher
3.) No change in slight ticking from 2000 to 3000 RPM
PS: Buy the time you buy a new cam cover gasket and new Exhaust port gaskets it is no longer a $12 job. Also I had to remove the whole skock exhaust system to get the front pipe out of the way. By far the biggest part of the job. Not difficult but took some time. It is a better spring, you can see that right off. Not sure it was worth the effort though. I think forking out for an after market Oil Pump might have been a better use of my time...

correct me if I am wrong but if you buy a "better" oil pump and retain the same spring, the oil pump does nothing for you. The spring is a pressure bypass spring. once the pressure hits a certain point it opens and bleeds off any excess oil flow to maintain a constant pressure.
So what is the benifit of changing the pump? Just changing the spring will increase your pressure. And as mentioned earlier in the thread, shimming the spring will continue to increase the pressure.

The Fueling pump will flow more oil or I should say it has a larger flow rate. The Basiley spring will give us more constent pressure to the lifters to keep them pumped up but for cooling and lube the fueling pump with it's higher flow rate will do the job better than the stock pump. I used the fueling pump in the strokers I build but I must say it still has 0 to 2 lbs at hot idle....when I install the Basiley spring with the fueling pump the hot idlewent up to 15 to 18 lbs. I think its a good combo but, the spring is my first choice.

i plan on giving the spring a try. but i'm gonna do it when i replace my stock headers with v&h duals. while i've got the pipes off, i'm gonna throw in an
easy boy clutch setup too.

When I installed the Baisley spring, GRock recommended that I use the K&N Gold oil filter, since it had a higher releive spring (14-15) than the HD and most other filter companys use.
Thought I would pass his advice on. (Hope you don't mind GRock)
