help with cam install

I am installing a set of s&s 510g cams in a stock 2005 88inch twin cam. Am keeping the stock non adjustable push rods.
Question #1 the service manual says when reinstalling rocker supports place the shorts bolts and the flat washers on the left side, and the long bolts and flat washers on right side.
The bolts that came out are all same length, with in 10 thousands.
there were no flat washers, but the bolts are the kind with a bilt in flange under the head.
question #2 I am using new stock hd lifters, the book says install with oil hole inboard (to me this means towards the jugs). the one that came out all had oil holes towards the out side( away from the jugs). can any one set me on the correct path?
thank you

I would put the bolts back in the hole they came out of. As far as the lifters I understand that it doesnt make any difference, but again I put mine back in just like they came out, but that was over a year ago and I dont remember if it was like the service manual said they go or not.

Fattmann, are you talking about the bottom rocker box mounting bolts or rocker arm assembly bolts? What length are they?

The rocker support plate bolts are all the same size. The placement of the holes in the lifters doesn't matter if you are using new lifters. If you were reusing the old ones it is always a good idea to put everything back the same as it came out to keep the wear patterns the same.

I just did this job on a 2001. Bolts were same lenght, but book says different. Lifter holes were outboard, book says inboard. These boys are correct, assemble as they were oriented originally..

Aren't you supposed to change lifters if you change cams (I realize there was no cam change in this instance; just curious) - unless they're "roller" lifters? Do the Twinkies have roller lifters?

Yep they have roller lifters. If you have 10 - 15k miles on it you may as well just drop a fresh set in.

bolts are the same, holes outboard towards you...

I've put in nearly a dozen sets of those 510G's just in the last few months alone... you'll love them!!!

what are u using to recalibrate the ecm ? so far I've used SE's race D/L, PC's, and Dobeck's TFI... dobecks seems to be the easiest way to go, but obviously u can get a little more out of the sert or the pc if u have a decent dyno guy around...

good luck with it
