Mother F*****!!!!

Damn my luck, bought a used chrome primary of eBay and went to install it this morning. Drain out the oil and go to put the plug in the new one....it's fricking STRIPPED! The thing about it is I paid top dollar for the "near perfect" original H-D cover, looks good, works bad. I'm pissed!

And of course...can't find a 3/8X24 helicoil anywhere today or a 3/8X16 plug to go with the 3/8X16 helicoils that I can find...what a bummer!

Make sure you give the bastard a negative feedback. Maybe you can help someone else in the future.

Damn that sucks! The chits is that you paid good money for an item because it was described as "near perfect". That sounds damn near fraudulent. Like Desighitter said, leave negative feedback so others know to beware of this seller. I've had very good luck using Ebay, but stories like this certainly highlight the inherent risk involved w/the concept....

Well, in all fairness I'll give the guy a chance to do the right thing...maybe he didn't know it was stripped, at least I'd like to think so. If he will refund some of the money I'll be happy...about half!

That's the right additude to have here. But if he doesn't make good on this then tear him a new one.

I feel your pain though but at least you still have you old one so you can get it back together...and spend $ on some more fluid.

If the seller has a good feedback record, chances are he didn't know it was stripped. Like you said, assume that's the case, and give him a chance to do right by you. If it were me, I'd at least ask that he refund the cost of the parts required to repair the problem. As for the labor to repair it, you could negotiate that with him, depending upon how much was paid for the piece in the first place...Good luck on it...

csoday will become famous soon enough
Since he said "near perfect", the question is "how near" and what do you consider "top dollar". He probably new it was stripped but if you didn't ask "how is it flawed", then there are a few grey areas. Suppose it wasn't stripped but had a scratch or was scraped from leaning into turns.

Chuck, Chuck, Chuck, always the devils advocate Well, I suppose one could get into the translation of "near perfect" but I think a stripped plug should be divulged in a sales description if known. I considered that I paid "top dollar" only because I could have purchased an aftermarket, probably imported, one for about the same money...but this was a genuine H-D for whatever that's worth. Anyway, I have contacted the seller and he has offered to refund my costs if I return it. My dilemma now is return it and cut my loses or spend a few dollars and repair it?

If you decide to return it and and there is a problem with getting your money back.
Go threw ebay and file a claim before its to late I believe you have 30 days. Under item received not as described and tell them about it. I received a screwed up seat once and went threw the process with ebay at first ebay told me it was as described, and I said there was nothing in the description about the seat being cracked and I thought they were supposed to stick up for the peaple getting ripped off here and so on, then they agreed with me since I wouldn't back down and offered me a settlement with the person like 1/2 my money back. I declined and eventually got all my money back plus shipping.

It took a few weeks but well worth it, I hate theives.

Defective components that require repair are NOT "near perfect".

Sucks that this happened to you. But like was said give the guy the benefit of the doubt. He MAY not have known.

Reading stories like this are why there are certain things I will NEVER buy used or on ebay.

Hope you get it resolved to your satisfaction gulfstream.

Red face Maybe I can help

I don't know what you paid or should pay. I haven't really been trying to sell this stuff and not sure if this will fit your model. But, I had a kid turn in front of me a couple years ago and laid down. The outer primary got a little dinged up really low. You have to get down and look for it when it's on the bike. Insurance bought a new one so I replaced it. Still have the old one up in the garage. It's chrome from an 01 electraglide. Don't want to get top dollar. Hate to see it just rot in the garage if someone can use it. R u interested?
