Unhappy Performance Machine Phatail ring gear failures

I installed a PM Phatail kiit on a softail duece and it is experiencing ring gear failures. From what I have determined, the jackshaft is not comming out far enough to fully engage the ring gear. Has anyone else experienced this issue? By the way, we have tried a new starter to remedy this issue, but to no avail!

I am in the process of installing the compu-fire 10-84 conversion of the starter ring gear and pinion on my wife's FXDL.

The bike has had 2 OE ring gear failures and it appears that the mesh of the ring and pinion were incorrect (Jackshaft not fully engaging the pinion to the ring)

Compu-fire instructions indicate that there should be gap between the ring and pinion of .075 and .125, and not, to shim the jackshaft assembly outward to correct this issue.

Ray, I got mine together and FWIW, so far, all is good.

Steve at compufire is a great help for tech advice.
