Reading in the Electrical Diagnostic Manual for 2002 Touring Models,
pg.3-12 it says: "The turn signals, starter motor, ignition controller
(ECM/EFI), fuel pump (EFI models) and coil will be disabled in the event
the vehicle tilts more than 45º from vertical for longer that one second."
I'm not sure if that's specific with EFI models only or not, but the sensor
is in the Turn Signal Module which controls the automatic turn signal
cancellation, emergency flashers, and turn signal lamp diagnostics.
You can verifiy if the bike has TSM that monitors signal lamp diagnostics
pretty easy. And I'd bet that if it does lamp diagnostics it also has the bank angle sensor.
To verifiy lamp diagnostics system, remove a turn signal bulb, and while riding, turn on the turn signal to that side. I'd do this a couple of times to make sure the system detected the change in current flow to the affected side. If the diagnostics system is present and it detects an incorrect current flow (missing bulb) it will cause the remaining lamps, and the turn signal indicator to flash real fast after the 5th flash. This serves as a warning to the unaware rider that a problem exists.
Now, before you do that, be aware that after the buld is replaced, the fast flash after 5 will continue until 50 starts of the engine or your reset it.
Resetting it is done by a special process of pressing the turn signal buttons while turning the ignition switch on and off. You'll need the instructions from the manual to reset it. Most H-D dealerships can print you the page
3-20 from their computer system. Or I will send you the instructions if you PM me.
