There is a tip over senor that kills the engine if you drop it.
It resets just as you are describing (turn the ignition switch on and off).
Sounds like it could be defective (too sensative). Don't know about the location on you model, but on an 02' FLHTCI it's under the seat behind the battery and part of the Turn signal module. That's where I would start looking.

I know injected models have the flip sensors , how about the carb models?

Reading in the Electrical Diagnostic Manual for 2002 Touring Models,
pg.3-12 it says: "The turn signals, starter motor, ignition controller
(ECM/EFI), fuel pump (EFI models) and coil will be disabled in the event
the vehicle tilts more than 45º from vertical for longer that one second."

I'm not sure if that's specific with EFI models only or not, but the sensor
is in the Turn Signal Module which controls the automatic turn signal
cancellation, emergency flashers, and turn signal lamp diagnostics.

You can verifiy if the bike has TSM that monitors signal lamp diagnostics
pretty easy. And I'd bet that if it does lamp diagnostics it also has the bank angle sensor.

To verifiy lamp diagnostics system, remove a turn signal bulb, and while riding, turn on the turn signal to that side. I'd do this a couple of times to make sure the system detected the change in current flow to the affected side. If the diagnostics system is present and it detects an incorrect current flow (missing bulb) it will cause the remaining lamps, and the turn signal indicator to flash real fast after the 5th flash. This serves as a warning to the unaware rider that a problem exists.

Now, before you do that, be aware that after the buld is replaced, the fast flash after 5 will continue until 50 starts of the engine or your reset it.
Resetting it is done by a special process of pressing the turn signal buttons while turning the ignition switch on and off. You'll need the instructions from the manual to reset it. Most H-D dealerships can print you the page
3-20 from their computer system. Or I will send you the instructions if you PM me.

TSM code clearing

sending this PDF is way too complicated for me.
I like the kind of instructions that tell you which button to press and how long to hold it down. And I don't think I can find that type of instructions on the forum.

Check your wiring! I have an 01 Road King. That would happen to my bike. Driving along fine and all of the sudden the bike would quit (usually when the bike was under a load) . I'd pull over to the side of the road turn the switch off and back on and everything was fine. It ended up being a wire for the voltage regulator, the insulation had worn through. When you cycle the ignition switch I think it resets the breaker. I think that there is a service bulletin on this. Hope this helps!

It could be a wiring issue,he has ape hanger handle bar's with wiring inside the bar's,it could be something in there. Also I believe he has repalced the voltage regulator so it could be somethig there.

The wire that I had grounding out was near the voltage regulator. I also had to replace my reg.
