Steering head adjustment tool?
What are you using to adjust the steering head nut for the fall away check? The manual says to use a 16" piece of drill rod. What is drill rod?

It's a piece of pretty tough (not hard) steel, round like a drill bit, but no flutes. A good tool supply place should have it.

I use a yard stick clamped to a small step stool. Works for me!

Does the step stool keep the yard stick from flexing when you whack it to turn the nut?

Fall away only take a peice of tape on the fender & a fixed point at the center mark. Where do you beat on anything?

Frank,
I've got an old cheap, long screwdriver with a round shaft that I just ground down to fit the opening. Been using it for years.

Can we start a reading comprehension forum?
When the light doesn't even go on when you mock the answers...

I have a long thin pin punch that works well.
Some of you need to re-read the original question. He is not asking how to measure the fall away, but how to adjust the nut when the fall away needs to be adjusted.

FXDL - I use a socket to tighten or loosen the nut to achieve the correct "fall away" spec. I measure the fall away with the yard stick clamped to a step stool. :2flips: On a FXDWG model, the adjuster nut is tightened with a drift pin after loosening the top nut. :2flips:

Thats what Im talking about. No special tool needed, just a socket & hex wrench.
