FLHTI - S.E. Slip On Muffler & EFI question...

By putting on a set of S.E. slip ons, what needs to be done with FI on the bike? Will it need to be modified for the bike to run right.

If I get the FLHT with the EFI it'll be the first time for EFI for me on a bike.

Or should I just go with a carb and get a good free flow air cleaner kit?

Nuthin'. It may pop a bit on decel, but nuthin' serious. The fix, on EFI bikes, can be expensive.

That debate has been goin' on here and lots of other places for years. Do a search on "carb EFI", and read 'til you drop.

After doing some reading I'm still not sure what to get.

Fun reading though!

I'll just check out the bikes they do have and see which one I end up with...
...they're both Harley's, that's the main thing!

SEII's

I have SEII's on my EFI Deuce. I like the way they look, they sound after tweaking the deflector, and will perform will with my 95" build.

Added the DFO and 0 (zer0) traces of decell poping.

Karl,

Putting on SE slip-ons *and* a free flowing breather is generally known as stage I an will require reflashing the ECM (on a EFI bike).

You can do one or the other (pipes or breather) without having to reflash the ECM but it really doesn't make much sense as the bike doesn't "breathe easier" without both items.

If you have modest wrenching skills you can install the pipes and the breather and simply pay your dealer $150 to flash your ECM.

If you think you'll be doing more mods in the future, you should consider the SE race tuner because (1) it comes with a CD that has all of the SE flashes on it (so you can do your own stage I flash now) and (2) it provides maximal tuning flexibility using a dyno to optimize performance (when you "go big" in the future).

EFI or carb is a different topic that has been extensively debated. The answer to "which is better" is really context dependent.

regards,

wyo

Karl,

I had a set of slip-ons and had very minor poping on decel. This last weekend I added a stage 1 kit but instead of having a down load done ($175 + install cost at the dealer.) I spent $200 and bought the RevTec and installed it myself. It took about 35 - 40 minutes another 15 - 20 to tune it. I must say it was very easy and I feel a good improvement over the stock configuration. And I got to spend time with my baby while the wife was making home made enchaladas

The biggest part of that decision was if I decided to make other mods I don't have to get another mod from the dealer can re-tune it myself.

Whatever you decide to do remember its yours and you can wash it as fast and as often as you want

I agree with the others here on a number of counts:

With a decent Air Cleaner and set of Pipes you're bike will lean out and should be compensated.

Don't waste your money on the HD Stage I flash. Spend a little more and get a PCIII or better yet a Screaming Eagle EFI Race Tuner Kit.
