Need help removing scratches from top of motor

I did a really stupid thing when changing tanks. I removed the clamp from the left side of the crossfeed tube but did not remove the right and really scuffed up the top of the motor. Does anybody have any tips on removing these scratches? Some are fairly deep. But I think they can be ground down and buffed out, I just don't know exactly where to start.

I guess that you are talking about aluminum finished parts, not chrome right? If so, aren't they clearcoated? If either chromed or cleared, the best place to start is on eBay for a replacement. If they aren't cleared, yes, you can sand down the scratch and buff the piece, but you likely won't be able to get the same "sheen" on the metal.

Yes, it is the aluminum part, not chrome. Do you have any suggestions for what to use to sand the scratches and what would be best to buff them out. Thanks for the reply.

XXX, I decided to take your advice about ebay instead of trying to repair them. Not worth the effort when I can get a set fairly cheap....thanks.
