Too fast of an idle-efi...Help!

Hello,

I have a 2004 FXDL/I with V&H Bigshot staggerds as the only mod to the bike so far. I did not get the remap done, since it seems to be running smooth so far, and the plugs look farily normal. My problem though is that about 1 out of every 5 or so cold starts, the engine shoots up to a idle speed of around 2400-2900 rpm's right away, and will stick there for about 10 seconds, then it will drop like a rock down to about 1100 rpm's for a little bit longer until it sinks into the normal 1000 rpm warm idle. The bike runs fine otherwise, but this concerns me because I was starting the bike when the tempature was in the 30's and it did not do this, and now I start it in the 50-60 degree temps and it will idle extremely high. Does anyone out there know what this problem might be? Has anyone had this problem, and what did you do to fix this? My bike is under warranty but I'm worried that they might not try to cover it because I added the aftermarket exhaust. Do you think that might be a problem?

Thanks

Sounds like your IAC (Idle Air control) pintle is not always resetting to its "park" position when the engine is stopped. Then on a restart because it isn't parked it takes a few seconds for it to get repositioned.

Problem usually is from a short between the IAC connections (4) and the ECM. Takes SE Tuner software to diagnose or dealer.

You can visually see by taking off the air cleaner cover and element and with bike hot and running turn key off. Watch the IAC pintle after turning engine off. You should see it first fully extend, then retract to "park" during a 10 second key off time. Do not do restarts inside the 10 second key off window.

Another possibility is the throttle is not returning to 0. TP % greater than zero will cause a fast idle start up. Check throttle cable adjustment and lubrication.

If you get a CEL the DTC code will be P0505 and flash code 34.
