The simple answer would be too much oil. Did you recently do a "cold" oil change? If so... if that is your only symptom and your motor runs fine (i.e., its getting oil), I would get it up to running temp, then do another oil change. If you need to drain a little oil out, do it through the filler neck. I've used a bulb-type hand syphon to do it in the past. You can pick one up at the auto parts store for @ $3 and they come in handy for other applications such as syphoning fuel out of your tank when you need to replace your crossover line.

Be safe

I don't know how long the bike sits between starts but a softail oil tank will leak into the crankcase if startups are days or weeks apart. Which means that if you do have more than 4 quarts of oil, you likely have oil in the tank and the crankcase on startup which will could cause crank case pressure to blow the dipstick out.

First order of business would be, as previous posts suggest, get the engine up to operating temperature and change oil; see how much comes out. If more than four quarts, you have the answer to your problem.

If 4 quarts, or less comes out, the crankcase venting system is plugged up somewhere and you will need to find the blockage and remove it.

Agree. Mine has never shot off like that on my 2006 Softail Standard. If there is to much oil, it will seep out the filler neck when it is warmed up.
