Ride without battery

Hi, I have a FXSTi 2005 95ci and I`m looking to take out my battery and all the electric stuff. My idea is to convert to carb, kickstar and magneto.
Any suggestions...

Your best bet is to buy an old shovel or pan head. They have kick start some have magneto and all have carbs.

Sounds like the OP wants to chop and be old school, which sounds pretty cool to me.

Obviously with just a kick start, compression releases would be a good idea.

Never looked into just using a magneto before, but I would think you would also need a new regulator.

Hopefully this will be a great thread if you keep your progress documented and ignore the "naysayers"....

The point is that I know nothing about electronics. My fist HD is a Electra Glide FL 1977 (I still got it) and I`ve added a kickstart to not bee a hostage of battery, fuse, etc, in my long rides by my self.
So I would like to keep my FX out off the dealers and their computers.

I'm no spring chicken , and I have had bikes with CDI ignition and kick start. Had a 39'Ford coup which was pretty simple points plugs battery. But that doesn't mean I would go back to that? My 05 softail is very dependable . The fuel injected cars are super dependable .
I guess I don't understand what your worried about? What if your mag takes a shet ?
Not trying to be a dick but theses bikes are pretty dependable.
Now if just doing a old school chopper that's different.

Just wondering... 95 inch motor with any kind of mods could be a challenge to kick. Back in the day of kick starters the engines were a lot smaller and compression was lower.

Hell, I've worked my ass off trying to kick start an old 500 KTM, can't imagine trying to leg a built HD. I like the concept, and think it would be ultra cool, but like they say on "Shark Tank" - I'm out.

That`s it TXCHOP... But they say battery still gonna be necessary. Didn`t understand why. I used to think that with magneto iginition system wouldn`t be used.

mori55 a mag like a rear chain drive I can work some problems on the road. ECMs don`t.

Sorry, I am not that familiar with that cam and can not visualize how it could lesson compression just on start up.

And please realize I am not an "expert". It was my novice understanding that the voltage regulator needs a steady 12volt battery input to work properly. Not sure if there are any current products to do what you want to do.
