TC88 vs. TC88B
really I am torn between a softail and the wide glide.
what would be the better motor for modding. ie, heads, cam, new carb, (yes going carb) etc......
thanks

I was in the same spot back in January. I finally settled for an EFI Deuce (if I held out for the carb model, I'd still be without a bike) and couldn't be happier.
Well, I could be happier if I had a Road King or one of the other baggers to go with it.

The unbalanced motor in the Dynas has more performance *potential* than the balanced motor. Carbed bikes are cheaper to hi-po than EFI.
That said, if your not planning to build the motor any bigger than what Screamin' Eagle offers, either will do fine. Pick the one that makes your panties moist ...

Got a "B" motor, and love it! Much better than that old "Evo" engine!

If those were my choices, which they aren't............I'd have to go with the Glide. Around here everyone had a softtail. I also prefer rubber mounted motors. I have an FXD and know what fun it is to hop up a carbed TC.

Both have their merits.....
I like both, but I have chosen to go with the "B" motor. The "A" motor will give the idling shake that harleys are known for without the excess on the road. However, after spending some time in the saddle of a "B" motor bike, I do like its smoothness on non-touring rides (seein's how that is most of my riding). The mods are there for both, just takes more time to develop them for the counterbalancers. I have also heard of many taking them out and just making it like an "A" motor on a solid mount. ITS A HARLEY!!! the possibilities are endless......

I'd definately go with the wide glide.....oh, wait....I already did
No really, I love the rubber mounted motor over the counter-balanced version.

I was spoiled on the smoothness of the metric cruisers.
I wasn't at all interested in Harley until they came out with the "B".
Paintshakers are fine, but only at Home Depot.

I like the shakin' of the rubber mounted engine at idle, and the smother operation at speed, that they also enjoy...the best of both Worlds!

Have ridden both, I went with the "B" the performance gain over the non balanced is minimal and I doubt if you could even tell the difference if you rode the same modified bikes

I love how people who ride bikes with fairings, tour packs, CB radios, air suspension, hard saddlebags and compasses on them say that they wouldn't buy a B motor because it's got extra stuff in it.

If I wanted a balanced engine, I'd take it to a professional and have it done. Then you've got an excuse to get a stroker installed...hmmm that gives me an idea...
