What damage is done if a TC88 overheats?

What sort of damage is done when a 2001 TC88 engine overheats? Also is there anything in the ECM that shuts it down or protects it from overheating?

I don't know what happens.
but here is a story a buddy of mine told me. last year he went to sturgis on his new 02" FXD. while riding down main st. the bike overheated shut down and would not start. someone told him to let it sit and wait. about 1/2 an hour later he started up and rode the bike. no problems since then.

I beleive you have engine over temp protection which shuts down the engine so you can't hurt it. The detroit diesel in my RV has so much electronic protection that I couldn't blow it up if I tried.
