updating cam plate to 2006+ up style?

I found an older article on the hotbike site where it talks about updating the oil pump and cam plate to the later style. It says they use no bearings in the cam plate, and the pump is better somehow?

Anyway, wondered how that stood the test of the time since the article was published.

Anyone?

Did my bike last year. 10k miles now and I still think it was a better choice than gear drive for a 95" that gets some miles put on it. It's quieter than gear drive(had that on my last bike and was told mine was quiet for gears) great oil pressure and absolutely no oil showing up in the air cleaner from the breathers.

Here's the Andrews pdf. file link if you want to look at what's required. The only part not listed that you need is the 1/4-20 bolts to attach the tensioners to the camplate. http://www.andrewsproducts.com/PDF_f...n_chain-01.pdf

Order your parts from Zanotti HD or Chicago HD and you can get it done for under $500.

I agree. I had installed S&S 510 gear drive cams. Although I loved the cams I just didn't care for the noise. The new setup with Andrews 26N cams is quiet as stock. I got everything I needed from a guy who wanted to put gears in his 07.

ok, so my understanding from the what you guys are saying, is that doing this mod is ONLY for a chain driven setup? Apparently it won't work with the gear drive cams?

You CAN get a camplate from Harley's SE line that is designed to use the new style oil pump with the old style silent chain/tensioners which can then be converted to gear drive. The point is though that unless you really just have to have that gear noise whining in your ears while you ride or are running a drag bike and just have to have that absolutely perfect valve train the hydraulic tensioner/roller chain system is more than adequate for a street ridden bike and will cost you less money. When I switched over I looked into the longevity of the new style no bushing camplate and several reputable builders(both here and local to me) felt the stock 07+ camplate was more than up to the job. So I saved myself $200 on an SE bushing camplate.

I've posted this before: I had the updated hydralic lifters and roller chain set up installed last summer in my '03 TC88. My buddy had gears installed in his '04. At idle, the gears meshing on his '04 is all you hear, whereas the upgrade kit on my '03 is nice and quiet. My '05 Sportster is geared and it's as quiet as my TC88. I tried to tell my pal that it sounds as tho he has some crank run-out going on.
The SM at the dealer said he wasn't aware of HD's having excessive crank run-out.
I just gave him the same expressionless look back as he was giving me and said "Oh".

TC88 upgrade

I have an 05 TC88 and read the same article. Is this something the average wrench can install? Or does it need to be done by a HD gear head? THanks for the thread. This was exactly what I was looking for.

Did mine in my garage. No pressing required. Got the oil pump alignment pins from George and the gear lock tool from my dealer. You also need a inch/pound torque wrench. Be careful with cam plate bolts as the ones that go in the dowels can be easily stripped.

Just finished up my 2000 Roadglide, I used the new style SE conversion cam plate that uses Andrews conversion cams with roller chains.

Hydraulic chain tesioners, high flow oil pump, jims adjustable pushrods, Torrington inner cam bearing MOCO B lifters and the power commander 3 USB.

This was my 1st time tearing into a TC88, twas easy, you can easily do it yourself if your mechanically inclined, just take your time and ask lots of questions.

The people around here are very knowledgeable and will offer you assistance along the way.

I found the job very rewarding and the bike runs awesome, I used the Andrews 21N cams, I'm pleased with my cam choice.

The bike is super quiet I mean it is amazingly quiet in the cam chest and it should now be bullet proof.

After 20,000 miles my chain tensioners showed no signs of abnormal wear, me thinks the cam chain tensioner dilema maybe a bit blown out.

Do a search, lots of info on cam chain tensioners.
