Intermittent lifter ticking?

I've got a 2001 Fatboy with a GMR 98" kit, 615 cam running 10.8:1 compression. I've put a few thousand miles on it now and am getting some intermittent ticking in the front cylinder. It doesn't do it all the time. Every once in awhile it will randomly start ticking I park the bike for a bit restart it and it stops. I'm 90% sure it's a lifter. Should I replace the lifters?

I would say to change lifters, especially if you still have the original set in your motor. Use the HD 18538-99B lifters, the price is good, the quality is excellent, and if you have adjustable pushrods changing lifters is a piece of cake. You're done in one hour...

I was having a similar noise, but I'm not convinced it's a lifter (even though it's a similar sound). I have 10.75 CR and some choppy cams (37B) on my 95" motor.

With the compression being what it is, I'm leaning toward preignition/detonation with the heat it sees at idle. I pulled my plugs, and they did indicate a fairly lean condition, which would certainly contribute to the problem.

If we could get another warm day here in Michigan, I'd rejet the low speed circuit to fatten it up and see if it made a difference.

thoughts?

I got GMR lifters in my 98", for awhile I thought I had a lifter tick, when starting it in the morning, Around 10k. Did it for awhile. But I don't hear it anymore. Either it stopped, or its like the other Harley noises, you just get used to it.

From what I hear HD makes good lifters.
