Engine Mount Torque Specs
Just replaced the front engine mount on my '99 Ultra with the OEM "79D". Anybody have a clue what the torque spec would be for the center bolt, i.e., the long bolt that runs through the center of the rubber? I can't find anything in the service manual, but heard it is in the 35-45 range. Sound about right?

off the top of my head I think it is 20-25 but will check later in my sm. I now you don't want to go too tight or really vibrate.

Engine Mount Torque Specs
20-25 makes more sense. I would think the higher value would remove all the "wiggle room".

I just returned a 79D today, made in China. Bought a Velvaride.

15 to 20 sounds even better, I'll try that. Thanks, bro.
Berserker, I've heard good things about the Velvaride. I'll be right behind you if this one jacks up my mirrors!

Berserker, you were right. One trip to the gas station and I was seeing double. Once I can see straight again, I'll go look and see what fell off the bike. Just ordered the VelvaRide. I know, I know....

I heard the 79d's were hard rocks and the VelvaRide wasn't much better. I just can't imagine that a urethane mount is going to be better than rubber. It may last longer but it's harder than rubber and won't stop the vibes coming through the frame to the rider. Has anyone found a decent mount that is soft and will last? I'm in the need to replace mine and haven't found anything positive said about any mounts.

I am using a glide pro and it is urethane and looks just like the velva ride. the first couple hundred miles it vibrated but now I have 4-5000 miles on it and it is as smooth as can be.

Maybe berserker can update us after he puts the mount in. I'm all for it if it works as marketed. It's just hard to get an unbiased eval on products like this. One person says it's vibrates more...another says it's smoother than than the stocker.
I'm wondering if this whole "ride it for 800 miles" idea is just a way to let people get used to the vibes. Once we get used to something it becomes normal and not an issue, even though the vibration is still worse than a stock unit.

well I have 73,000 miles on my 04 (i put everyone on) so I feel I am a pretty good judge of its vibrations. When I first installed it it buzzed thru the foot boards. Now the foot boards are buzz free. They are easy to install and not that expensive. If you call Glide pro he sells them for $80 via phone order and it takes about 1/2 hour at most to install them.
