Dreaded Emissions

Here in Phoenix we have to have emissions done every 2 years on vehicals older than 4 years. Well this year is the first for my SG. I didn't think I would pass first time through. I changed spark plugs, added 1 quart of denatured alcohol to a tank of gas and walaa, the bike passed. Hydrocarbons @1514, standard being 1800, and Carbon Monoxide @4.78%, standard being 5.5%. It is such a joke with this emmisions, cost 19.00 and took 5 minutes.

Maybe Zippers will do a ThunderMax upgrade with a selectable setting, "Emissions Test" that includes a hotwire in the O2 sensors to nuke any unburned hydrocarbons...

When I worked in Phoenix (quite a few years ago).....I can't remember not getting any bike to pass emissions. We had our tricks though.

HC below 1800parts and CO below 5.5 is actually very do-able with almost any size fuel injected engine in the range they're tested. Typical cruise range CO would be in the 2.5 area.....HC gets a little heavy with the bigger cams.
