2005 FLHR Primary gear won't break!
I can't get the primary gear nut to break on my 2005 Road King. Working according to service manual, counter-clockwise to remove on primary gear, and clockwise on clutch. I've tried heating not head, that resulted in a broken breaker bar, then tried the impact wrench and it just won't budge. Anyone ever had this problem or am I just "special"?

just did this on mine last week, what a b*tch. snapped a heavy duty snapon breaker bar, which was supposed to be good for a about a bizzilion pounds of torq. Ended up using a king size pipe wrench with a 5 foot long cheater attached. I was thinking the manual was backwards on the threads but kept going longer on the cheater and they finally came off. A little trick on the comp nut is have some one tap on the socket while holding the socket from slipping while you reef on the cheater bar. I had the cheater bar flexing like crazy and I told him it was going to break and he said no way about 5 seconds before it snapped.

Haven't tried a pipe wrench yet! At least that gives me another option. I had the same feeling about going in the wrong direction, but everything said right hand thread. Once apart, could you tell why it stuck? Did it have the permanent loctite?

Too much loctite. Heat the pi$$ out of it and that should help.

Been there with the heat, have a nice blister on my finger to prove that! I've been trying to save the bolt, but am starting to hate the sucker!! I think it has more heat and a pipe wrench in its immediate future!

Job done! Loaded it on the trailer and dragged it to my cousin's auto shop. Took a 3/4 impact wrench and about 30 seconds to get it off. Whew!!! Put it back together and used TWO DROPS of Blue Loctite, Will recheck after I get a few more miles on it. Thanks to all for the suggestions.

Not to worry you but I would have used red 262 which called for. The red 262 is designed for the chemical (oil) enviroment the nut lives in. I know red is a pain to remove but it is a pain when you are on the road and hear that dreaded rattle because it came loose, and even when torqued properly these can come loose, which is hard to believe.

blue is not as strong as red.. not a place to skimp on strength....
if that comp nut comes loose.. major issues.. also it is not recommended to use impacts on the comp nuts...
inspect your compensator closely to make sure it isnt damaged..
