88 to 95 Big Bore Kits

Looking to up grade my 88 twin cam EFI 99 Ultra to a 95. Will pn# 29880-06 kit aside from the breather and pipes work with my bike? The reason I'm asking is found this kit kinda cheap.

kinda cheap? pistons, bore your jugs, gaskets = $350 +/- , and your bore will be true, clearance will be correct.

In the '99-'01 years the cam bearings were a problem. If it has not been addressed, you should consider that when doing the 95" build. Also replace your inner cam bearings with a full compliment bearing instead of the caged bearing that comes from Harley. Torrington makes a good full compliment bearing. How many miles on the bike? You should consider new lifters and probably chain tentioners as well.

Must agree that boring your cylinders is less costly and better results.

Thx Clay, found this stage II big bore kit with the cams, jugs , pistons, rings and spacers for about $300. Comes with pipes and breather that I already have, (Stage II) on mine. Guy says its a new kit (29880-06) seald in the factory box.

That's a good price. That kits is for a '06 FLHX. It includes (or should) replacement catalyst mufflers.

I would still consider boring your stock cyclinders for a better fit but you can use the cylinders in the kit. Keep in mind that you will have to add a fuel management device as well since your bike is EFI. A powercommander would be a good choice since is is an MM fuel injection.

I am with springer on this one... was going to buy new cylinders and pistons... decided to just send my pistons to a reputable builder and have him bore the cylinders. HD cast flat tops were mis-packaged... pistons were marked standard, but were .005 O/S... freakin rings were standard

Builder said this is the second set of HD pistons that he has seen like this.

I have a 2001 FLHTCUI with the 1550 big bore installed. SE203 cams, SE air bracket and SuperTrapp slip ons. Stage 2 flash from dealer and the bike runs great. No fuel management installed. I did purchase a PCIII USB incase I needed too, but so far power and spark plugs show I don't really need it. If I were to go bigger in the cam department then for sure I would use a fuel management device. Just another opinion. If you are interested in a PCIII USB I might be interested in selling mine.

Technically the Stage 2 flash is your fuel management device although not adjustable like a PCIII. A good tune with a more flexible fuel management device would be an improvement over what you already have. BUT if you are happy where you are just enjoy it.

Correct, but what I am saying is try it before you soak more into the build and see how it runs. Depending on the cam used will determine if you need a PCIII right from the get go. Sure if I wanted a few more horses the 260.00 PCIII and a 250.00 or more tune might be worth it, but for a SE203 cam not really is all I am saying.

Cool idea! Then you could have fun with the choke, & tuning the carb, & altitude changes and...
Maybe get rid of that pesky electric starter & installa good ol' kicker too.
I did a 95" SE big bore kit on my '03 RK a few years ago. Haven't had any problems with it, and I'm happy w/ the (mild, by some's standards) power increase. It was easy to do. Whole new jugs. I think I still have the originals around here somewhere.

Well With the 99 he has M&M injection... Very easy swap, do a searh on it. It's a night and day difference. You would be stupid to swap out on the 03 as you have the better injection system.
