Reasonable labor charge for a big bore kit?

Hi, I was wondering what you guys think is a reasonable amount to pay in LABOR for installing a 95" big bore kit in a 2000 electra glide classic. I was quoted around $700 labor if I supplied all the parts. Also can someone tell me if there is any trick to removing the fuel line to the gas tank on this same bike. It has fuel injection. Is a special tool necessary, or is it straight forward. thanks for your input.

I think most shops run specials where they do big bores parts and labor for around $900 so $700 sounds kind of high. It is just a push and pull quick release on the fuel line.

Isn't that fuel line pressurized? Been a while, but I believe the manual will tell you to remove the fuel pump fuse, crank over the engine a bit, then remove the fuel line. That will clear the fuel from the line so you don't hose down your garage with gas....

those are the jobs where they leave the pippes on and swing the heads out of the way, prop the tank instead of taping and removing, not measuring anything, and most importantly, charging additional hours for R/R all the chrome to get to the fasteners. dealer can do the job in about 3 hrs. wiht a tech that does lots of big bore kits. just something to think about when saving money.

Are you talking about the fuel line FROM the tank? This line has a special crimp clamp, but the tiny screw clamps can be used. Most shopds charge about 10 hrs for a big bore kit + a couple for cams. Shops around here now ask $95/hr.

To disconnect the fuel line from the tank, push the chrome sleeve up and pull down on the hose lightly. Its a quick coupling somewhat like is used on an air hose.
Hope this answers that part of your question. In regards to the big bore kit, buy the shop manual and do it yourself, its not a big deal.

Good Luck!
