Need info on oil pan removal on TC motor
I've developed an oil leak and it seems to be my oil pan gasket. I installed a 95" kit in the bike over the winter and never had any leaking issues before the BB install. Can someone tell me if there is anything that protrudes down into the pan to prevent the pan from coming out after draining and removing the bolts ? The factory service manual doesn't cover this in any detail. Also, can the pan come forward for removal, or does it have to go out the back with the rear wheel removed ? I'm going to post this in several sections on the forum. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Edbo

Rear wheel needs to be removed and take it out the back. Support the bike with a hoist from the backbone..

Are you sure it's coming from the oil pan?
The reason I ask is that about a month ago I also thought mine was leaking from the oil pan, it was wet with oil and dripping on the ground from the right side of the bike.
I got under mine and really checked it out and found that my bike was leaking from the exhaust support that bolts to the tranny where the header from the front cylinder goes through. It has 4 allen head type bolts and you use a hose clamp around the mount and then around the pipe itself. 3 of the 4 bolts were real loose to the point I could turn them by hand. Now, this is on my Road King, I don't know which bike you have.
It was running down the side of the tranny on to the oil pan and blowing towards the back of the pan.
Just a heads-up for something you might want to look at before going through all the trouble of removing the pan. The only part that sucks if it is leaking there is you have to take off the right side of the exhaust to get a straight shot at those bolts. Hope that helps. Good luck.

another reason to us redline heavy in your trans, you would beable to tell right away if it was your tranny leaking. Plus the stuff works real good.

I had the Redline Shockproof in my Baker tranny (DD6), because Baker recommended it. After about 8 months the trans started shifting sluggish. When I removed the top cover, the Redline had dried out and gunked up the shifter shafts and forks. Cleaned it all out and cleaned the shafts and forks with starting fluid. Dried it out, put in Amsoil trans oil. Presto, it shifted perfectly again. No more Reline for me. Checked the trans again after a few months and it has not dried out up there like the Redline. Sooooo, no more Redline for me... Just my experience, nothing more or less..
