Changing tensioners questions

Do you have to remove the cams to install a new tensioner on the inside chain? I am having a hell of a time trying to get the tensioner on the post with the cams installed.

Someone on this forum once posted that they were able to replace the rear tensioner without removing the cams and I had a hard time seeing how that is possible.

i removed mine, but i went ahead, seeing i was in that far anyway, changed all the bearings, inner and outer, put new o rings in,while i was in there, installed adjustable pushrods while i was at it,yeah it costed a lil bit,but i had peace of mind riding, rode well over 1000 miles in 5 days, couldn't be happier.installed adjustable pr's so in the future if i wanted to change cams....i could with out pulling the rockers...now thinking about some roller rocker arms...hhhmmmm

I did the same as you, se-203 cams no pipes or air cleaner yet and stock ecm (2003 flhtpi). I know im not using the cams to their full potential but it pulls really good above 2000rpm.
