Computer Change?

I've got an '04 FLHTPI that I've just replaced the pipes on, gone from stock to Screamin' Eagle's (the ones that say "NOT FOR ROAD USE"). I wanted louder pipes after almost hitting a couple of deer on the way home from work on morning...but I digress. I also replaced the stock air filter with a K&N this past weekend. With these changes, do I need to have my computer reprogammed?

thanks-

Chris

Yep your going to need to add some fuel. As for the deer, watch out because they at times come back across the road if their spooked I've seen it happen more than once.

What does reprogramming the computer do for my bike? What happens if I don't do it?

Loud pipes to scare the deer away?

You need to get some of them deer whistles and put them on. They would look so cool on there!

Have you tried to ride the bike since the changes? Go try it... we'll wait.

compuer change

Not at highway speeds. I took her for a little spin around the neighborhood and she seems to have a little more pickup. She ran okay, and the new pipes sounded really throaty.

I had the same reaction. You think loud pipes deter deer? I don't know. I'm inclined to believe that they don't. Even so, when deer become frightened by a sound, they often don't know the direction of the "threat", and run carelessly in any given direction. How many of you fired a rifle during hunting season only to have a deer run toward you in response, or at least freeze and look around? If loud pipes do frighten them, it is quite possible that the deer would run carelessly across your path as a result, whereas they otherwise would have just gone about their business and not interfere with your ride.

Loud pipes are what they are. Fun, perhaps. But if you're getting loud pipes solely for the purpose of preventing an accident with a deer, I'd say you're wasting your money.

I braved the frigid freaking temps and rode to town and back, she seemed to run okay without any problems.

Weird. with pipes and an intake change, it shouldn't. That's why I said take it out for a ride. Should have been obvious that it would need some fuel management changes.

Heck, if it ain't broke...

The lean spots may not show until the weather gets hot and the bike gets a load put to it.
