went to gear drive

Bit the bullet and spent the bucks to have the S&S 510G gear drive cam kit installed (as well as chrome solid wheels, chrome pulley cover and Kury iso-grips - I know I know, chrome won't get you home, but it sure looks nize). Too cold to ride here for any distance so I don't know how they perform yet since the bike never even got warm in the 10 miles to home, no wonder since I almost froze my azz. Does seem to make the bike a little louder (maybe my imagination) and there is a humorous new, not bothersome noise, a blender-type sound from the cam area when I accelerate. It is good to know I won't have tensioner shoe chips exploding thru the oil pump into the engine. . .

I've been considering the same upgrade...if you don't mind me asking, how much was the labor to install the cams?

The labor for the cams was $260, four hours @ $65 per hour at a reputable indy.

I read about some gear whine when switching to gear drive cams. Mine are silent. I wondered if he put them in...

Make sure you check the crank run out before you do this. Or you'll spend a lot more money in the long run.
